Deicide and animal sacrifice?

The metal band Deicide was brought to court because they sacrifice animals (metal is big on sacrifice).

What I would like to know is regardless of your own opinion on animal sacrificing is it right that they were taken to court because of it? Their opinion of animal sacrifice is no different than any other people who sacrifice animals so why were THEY brought to court. Is it because of the fact that they are famous. Ozzy did the same thing and he was never brought to court for it..

First and foremost Ozzy bit the the head off a bat because he thought it was fake. NOT in some ritual sacrifice. Someone threw it on stage during a concert and he picked up and chomp. He didn't realize the damn thing was real until after he had to get the rabbi shots. Even on the trip to the hospital he was barking like a dog because he thought it was all a joke.

SECOND - animal's are sacrificed by the thousands daily. So depending on the reasoning behind the killing should determine if charges should be filed.

THIRD - you're an idiot to think that metal is big on animal sacrifice. Name 1 instance where an animal was purposely killed just because it was "metal". And don't say Ozzy did because that was a mishap and had he known it was a real bat he wouldn't have done it.

Yes, it was right that they were brought to court for it. I'm into metal and there are certain things that create symbolism and re-enforce the atmosphere of the show/message, but killing things isn't and shouldn't be one of those ways.

I'm sure you've heard of the band Behemoth and their whole legal issues with "renouncing religion by publicly ripping pages out of the Bible"? Something like that helps with the artist's message, but isn't hurting anyone physically. Hurting or killing an animal is a different story. That is taking the act and persona too far, and not by a "shock value" standpoint.

I've read about it in a few different music sources (and Wikipedia). Mainstream news don't know about him and don't care, they're too worried about Lady Gaga and her forms of "shock value" lol

"Metal is big on sacrifice" - according to who? "Statements in favor of animal sacrifices" - that is entirely different to actual sacrificing animals. That's like saying that thinking about robbing a bank should be punishable. Completely baseless. Freedom of speech, remember?

It's an over-popularized phenomenon that is NOT representative of the entire metal genre. Sacrificial themes in metal music? Sure. But I think that is MUCH different to the actual sacrifice of animals. I agree about Ozzy, though. If anyone commits such perverse acts of animal cruelty, then of course they deserve to be charged/convicted.

Most bands who have done animal sacrificing have been brought up on charges of animal cruelty, so technically, when PETA or another animal rights group goes after them, its usually on an animal cruelty case.

I may have people disagree with me, but I'm just giving the legal aspect, and this is not necessarily my view on it.

It is against the law and a terrible thing to do. It doesn't matter if they are famous, anyone caught doing it should be as heavily penalized as the limits of the law allow.

Metal was never big on Animal sacrifice, there are a lot of metal bands from the darker end of the spectrum who are involved in some violent Thelema-off shoot or different cults, but the sacrifice they might partake in there, animal or human, isn't done publicly, its done ritually.

Bands that aren't metal have killed a lot of animals though. Slipknott, who are just... lame, ripped apart a dog on stage, apparently. And there have been countless accusations about Marilyn Manson and his activities, although I don't know if there's any truth to those, he probably started the rumours himself.

I would not say I am for animal sacrifice, but it is not a very different thing than what is done to animals to put a steak on my plate. So I am not in a place to judge and neither are many others who eat meat.

And before anyone says it is not humane... well animals are not human, and slaughter houses are not kind to their product.
