There's a lot more to that story...
The leftist media wants everyone to believe it was because of weather. This may be true for roughly 60-100 of those 1,000+ flights judging by what other airlines dealt with at the same time, but certainly not a majority.
The rightwing media wants everyone to believe it's in protest of the vaccine. There's likely some of that going on, but probably not the other 900+ flights.
What's actually happening is repercussion of the labor shortage. The pilots and crews for Southwest especially are getting stretched so thin that they're reaching their maximum flight hours. There is no legal exception around this rule, period. It's such a big deal that every airline has an army of staff who's sole purpose is to manage and monitor crew scheduling and avoid this problem as much as possible. Shortages in maintenance crews also result in cancellations or delays. If one crew member "goes illegal," the airline has to find a substitute, even if it means taking a hit on flying a Dallas-based pilot to say Omaha to take over the flight. If it's not feasible to do that for whatever reason, then the flight just has to be cancelled. I'd estimate that this is what actually happened for the vast majority of the flights, while the other two issues made it worse.
A disproportionately large number of commercial pilots right now are in their retirement window. If this was really just about vaccines, they could literally leave at any time. Regardless, there will 100% for certain be a crippling shortage of pilots in the near future. If you think that the government cares about this, you are dead wrong; if the current administration had its way, air travel would be reserved for the elites who "need it," or as John Kerry said on the subject, "people like me." The only reason a nationalization of air travel hasn't been made into a serious political issue is because the government already has puppetmaster-level control over US airlines and therefore doesn't really need to.
In my opinion, every organization in existence should be opposing any kind of federal mandate, not only because of the principle, but also because the government has handed out bizarre, cherry-picked exemptions to the White House Staff and the US Postal Service to name two prominent examples. Federal regulations with exceptions undermine the point of having the feds involved in the first place; it should be all or none. If a business wants to mandate vaccines for its employees or customers, that should be entirely their own problem (or more accurately, risk assessment) to deal with.
Good. Show the tyrants who really has the power.
Absolutely. And when the truckers go on strike, they'll bring the world to it's knees.

God do I support it and if they did it would end the mandate immediately. But do you fully understand what would happen? Many places are already low on food. I’m lucky enough my towns only short on chicken but imagine no trucks. Even for days would be a disaster.
People would die. Imagine being shot in the store over the last baby food. Or no toilet paper. No sanitary products for women. No soap during a pandemic.
I swear I have multiple personalities. One of them says I don’t wanna suffer so no don’t do it. Just let me live in relative peace… another part wants to save society and our country but understands to do that means to let them suffer and some to die… then my last part understands… give me a gun and the go ahead and ide end humanity myself…
Yes, the government has no right to make somebody take a drug they do not want to take. The government is wrong to prevent people who refuse to get vaccinated from collecting unemployment which they rightfully should be able to qualify for. Biden had totally screwed Covid up. Deaths in 9 months of 2021 with the vaccine are greater that all of 2020 without a vaccine. Biden did all this by politicizing every aspect of Covid so that he would have somebody to blame for his failure.
Americans do not respond well to threats. I took the vaccine months ago but if my kids were little I would not have them vaccinated.
Truckers generally aren't unionized. And there is ALWAYS someone waiting in the wings to take over for you- unless you're with one of the carriers who actually cares about their employees, and most of them probably aren't stupid enough to mandate SQUAT.
Some already are. That is why there are so many cargo ships sitting by LA's harbor. They don't have enough truck drivers to move the merchandise anymore due to the vaccine mandates.
Yes, bring the country to a stand still, don’t deliver anything to blue states, pile your trucks 100 deep across every access point into blue states, starve them out.
It's a tough choice. By doing this they are cutting the entire country off of the goods they deliver but at the same time I want the mandates to end because it's unnecessary and very unhelpful.
I seem to recall leftist activists claiming that protests are supposed to be disruptive, and any protest that you can safely ignore isn't a good protest.
@BrosephBrostar Yeah that's true. However I wonder if this is what Biden wanted. He has been deliberately destroying jobs ever since he stepped into the oval office.
then, they can lose their jobs, put themselves and their family's in destitution... all to be idiots.
Reverse discrimination
