Do you agree
Socially, America is now where the UK was in the 70s. True or false?
Do you agree
I disagree. America made tremendous progress between the end of segregation and today. I was there in the 60's and I participated in the civil rights movement in the 70s. I saw what it was like then and I've seen the progress that has been made.
Blacks are no longer seen as second class citizens at all. I fact, they are highly valued and respected, and seen by the vast majority of whites as brothers and sisters, all part of the one "human race". They are ubiquitous in sports and entertainment. Schools are not segregated. There is no racial discrimination in employment. Racially mixed marriage and relationships are common. Not one part of society is segregated anymore.
Naturally, there are still some bigots and bigoted behavior, just as there is sexism and sexist behavior. As a result of some people's racist attitudes, there is still some covert systemic racism in certain institutions like some police departments.
But the difference between 1970 and today is like night and day.
It's true that our justice system is unfair, but it's about wealth and social standing, not so much racism.
People call out racist behavior, including police abuse, when they see it. That's a good thing. But what has happened recently is, certain activists have started to call EVERYTHING racism. Some of those people are flatly dishonest and some are merely duped. For example, the George Floyd thing had nothing to do racism. But he was black, so certain people see personal benefit in shouting racism.
There is an agenda that doesn't have anything to do with rooting out racism. The agenda merely uses that issue as a means of pitting people against each other and deliberately tearing society apart. The perception of rampant racism is being artificially induced. The goal is to create racism, not dissipate it.
The Democratic party and mainstream media are in on the agenda. Democrats think they can win votes by calling all conservatives racist. It's a cynical ploy that is utterly hypocritical, dishonest and despicable. But, ultimately, they are working for their elite globalist masters who want to bring in The Great Reset/New World Order/One World Government.
As I said, racism was on the way to disappearing. Now these fuckers are acting like nothing has changed since slavery in 1865 or segregation in 1965. Anyone with eyes can see that's untrue.
Granted, there are still some racists. Segregation only ended less than a generation ago. And it's true that a few institutions in different parts of the country are covertly racist. But all that continued to change rather rapidly as light was shined on the corruption.
As far as the UK is concerned, tell me that racism has disappeared, particularly among the upper classes and aristocracy who, I'm sure, still think of blacks as jungle bunnies. Anglocentrism is, by definition, racist.
That's certainly how it looks. I was only a kid in the 70s but I remember trying to understand why our street was collectively unhappy when a black family bought the house next door. It was so weird seeing houses suddenly go up for sale.
Our family liked the new neighbours more than the ones who left. The father had an awesome sense of humour and would always be the first to reach out to help if someone in the street needed something. They only lived there a couple of years unfortunately as he was a US airman on an exchange with an RAF pilot based locally so they moved back to America.
I'll never forget how much venom they had to endure from half the street and being told by one particularly hateful woman that I was a traitor to my race for being friendly to them - aged 7.
America is still in infancy as far as countries go. Slavery was abolished there far more recently than in Europe. The singer Paul Robeson was hounded by the McCarthy years for appreciating the Communist countries because he was treated as an equal human being there, a big deal since his parents were slaves in the South.
The culture will grow up eventually. Right now it's like my toddler who constantly shouts out "look at me" then farts, pukes or takes his nappy off. Like him, America will grow up and mature. Also like him, they shouldn't be allowed to play with guns or sharp objects in case they hurt themselves

I never knew that the UK with through that I thought the dude everybody was just normal good people there everybody always seem to get along it wasn't until I came on here is what I started seeing the race bulshit I never really paid attention to it because I don't live in that world as far as I'm concerned everybody is my equal and I don't see color can I see it getting worse and worse I see if you can't be grown up or if you hate somebody get the fuck off the planet if you're not a part of the solution and you're part of the problem get off the fucking planet it's that simple it totally disgust me especially on here because it's a race-bait issue it's not even an issue until somebody race baits it. Even with the race bait questions it goes beyond that they're these people are sick in their head they are mentally fucking i l l and they need help if you're jealous of anybody you need help if something breaks down you fix it you don't fucking keep destroying it not unless you're sick fucking Wako LOL thank you for this question because they gave me a moment to vent
One of my closest friends for the last 20 years is a black guy who grew up in Chicago and now lives in Oakland. His experience is that he feels some racism from time to time - mostly very mild (someone being a little uncomfortable around him), but maybe once a year he has something a little more blatant happen, like being pulled over for no real reason.
He said he can't remember a private business or corporation being racist, but sometimes from a government entity. But he also pointed out that even that is minor compared to the potential threat to him from his own people, and certainly nothing like what his father faced growing up in the South side of Chicago in the 60s. He wouldn't put racism in his top 20 problems, and rarely thinks about it. He finds the media pushing racism to be absurd and disappointing. He grew up as a Democrat and voted for Obama twice, but didn't vote for Biden and is horrified that he had considered doing so.
We both have very diverse customers, and it's never been an issue.
Lmao I mean maybe. I do not have the biggest knowledge of the UK. But I think it's quite different, you also act like racism and social issue shave been completely solved in the UK. Which I doubt is the case. I also have a thing where I don't take social advise from the country that literally destroyed a quarter of the world with their famous brand of racial tolerance. Overall, I would say the situation is quite different, we have a larger amount of ethnic groups and a wide range of technologies that work to divide us. But in all honesty, the internet kinda overblows the situation so I think most other countries have a false perception of what America is like. It is extremely rare to openly see racism in your day to day life, am a Mexican man by the way in a rural area. And it is still quite rare for me. It's honestly, more of a wealth inequality/class issue than it is a race issue. I think at the end of the day, a small group of people (white, black or whatever) control an overwhelming amount of power while the rest suffer. That kinda imbalance will create instability in any nation. The elites would just like you to think is has everything to do with race while they run out of the bank will all the money.
I respectfully disagree with that hypothesis.
Yes, there is discrimination in the US, but it's much less than the liberal and conservative media portrays it. Most Americans are respectful of others, regardless of their race, religion or political beliefs. That doesn't play well with the media, though, which is interested in attracting viewers, which increases their advertising revenue.
America doesn't have something like the advert-less mainly-unbiased BBC that the UK has. OK, PBS and NPR do exist, but they're overblown by the four main networks and their cable channels, where advertising revenue is what keeps them on the air.
>mainly unbiased BBC
lol they are very bias. They are the UK's version of CNN.
@SlightlyEccentric Every new media outlet is biased in some of the things it does. From the many times I've spent in the UK, and from watching BBC News here in the US, I've always found most of the BBC stories to be a fair selection of, and fair reporting of, the news. I can't say that for any news media in the US.
I was ages 10 to 20 in the 70's, and the only news that I remember coming out the UK during that period were endless strikes. You chaps were also exporting a lot of cars to the United States which either refused to start or had other serious electrical faults (or both), which was odd since the British invented radar!
Poppy, you're a very smart young woman; your breadth of knowledge is impressive, but I feel that you are lacking in firsthand understanding of the United States. Give the word and I'll pick you up at Orlando International Airport and show you around the country while on a genuine American road trip! Along the way you'll get the chicken and biscuits I promised you, and we'll even go to a shooting range, and I'll bet that you enjoy it (everyone does).
When you have huge numbers of persons from every country on the planet, all pulling for their own way of living, their own social mores, their own ideals of what a society should be, THEIR way of doing things. period - what would you expect in a country this size, but much hate from various factions, and division. I'm not sure what planet this person was from, but I have been to Europe, including London proper, and never saw such 'hate' and utter disregard for those from the United States. Now they should talk about hate and Division? Good god !
To be fair, right now the UK is also where the UK was in the '70s...
The US has always been very backwards though, largely thanks to the power of the Evangelical church, the rigid constitution, and the lingering fear of communism.
Scandinavia are generally ahead on most things, followed by the UK, Australia, New Zealand, Canada and parts of Western Europe, and then the USA is roughly on a level with Central or Eastern Europe.
Americans are still stuck in the 1870s, kiddo.
February 3, 1870: The 15th Amendment to the U. S. Constitution, which gave the right to vote to Black men, became law. Americans are STILL trying to make it work and give Blacks and women equality.
Name one legal right that women and black people don't have. I'll wait.
@Bricealan
I can think of some unequal issues..
1. Women pay more for woman’s items than men do. (Clothes, razors, etc) and senior items.
2. Woman do not have equal pay
3. Woman are under represented in government.
4. Only ten countries offer woman full legal protections, US is not among them.
5. Woman spend more on healthcare and insurance
6. Harder for woman to get loans without a co-sign based on gender alone.
7. Woman pay more for mortgages also based ln gender alone
I could go on.
@dustybiker None of what you typed is the least bit true.
1) Women’s items can be more expensive because they are formulated differently. Not because of any gender bias. If it bothers you that much, no one is stopping you from buying the men’s version.
2) The “pay gap” myth has been wholly debunked. Comparing job-to-job women make more than men on average. If you collect all salaries and compare them; then men make more…because they choose higher paying jobs and choose to work more hours.
3) Women are welcome to run for office. No one is stopping them.
4) Name the protection a woman doesn’t have under the law.
5) They pay more because they require more services.
6) Prove it
7) How do women’s credit scores compare to mens?
God, you fell for all the bullshit, didn’t you.
@joeldalton Thanks for sharing your thoughts. If you see it that way it looks like the bullshit is all over you. I stand by my facts.
@dustybiker Those aren't facts. They're nonsense. They've been debunked wholly by anyone who is a serious person.
Note you haven't provided any proof of your statements.
@joeldalton Thanks Joel. With all that said, the basic question was about basic rights for men and women i. e. Voting, going, doing, anything they want to do. I do not have facts on 'equal pay for equal work, but in MY working environment, with the State, we are ALL paid the same for the same work. I don't have facts on private enterprise. I have a Masters Degree, and am sure that I earned more in the private workplace that those 'men and women" that did not have the same credentials.
I appreciate you input very much.
Bruce
@Bricealan What they mean when they say “women are paid less than men” is that they take the cumulative salary of all women and compare that to the cumulative salary of all men.
Women will make less using that calculation.
However, this isn’t a single-variable equation. Men, on average, work more hours. They work in more dangerous jobs (deadliest catch crab fishermen, for example). They don’t take years off for child rearing. They work in higher paying fields (STEM compared to education for example).
It’s a disingenuous statement to say “women are paid less than men”. It doesn’t take into consideration the personal decisions that each gender makes when deciding on a career.
It’s the same as them complaining about the “pink tax”. A woman’s razor uses different blades than a man’s. They’re shaving different parts and have different skin than men. This costs more money for the manufacturer. They don’t WANT to shave with men’s razors despite them being cheaper….. literally nothing is stopping women from buying (cheaper) men’s razors. So women make a conscious choice to buy women’s razors then complain it’s not fair.
@joeldalton Do you have a vagina? No. When you’ve grown or purchased one, then lived with it for at least twenty years, you come back here and we’ll discuss real life experience.
@dustybiker Oh, ok. So in 🤡🌎 I can work my job making $100,000 a year, and if I transition to a woman the boss will come up and say "Joel, er Janette, since you're now a woman I'll have to dock your pay. I know you're providing the same effort at work, and have the same experience and education, but since you have that surgically created vagina, I'm obligated to cut your pay. "
Do you even have any self-awareness to realize how fucking stupid you sound? Nothing you posted is factual.
in the 60s and 70s both countries saw social change but whereas in the uk we had those discussions and moved on, america did not see the same liberalisation and so the same old arguements just go round and round. maybe thats why people see the states as 50 years behind the rest of the west
The Church of America is open to all. It's just a matter of falling to your knees and praying to the founding fathers. It takes a certain amount of humility, but the fathers are very kind to those who love them. Who should be the first president of the Church of America?
You need to take a holiday to America so you can learn for yourself but you’ll be very pleased when you get here. And you’ll enjoy all the friendly Americans.
Yep soon in the states, political correctness will brush child rapists like muslim grooming gangs under the carpet. Funny how you can be muslim and get away with raping so many little girls in the uk for so many many years without anyone saying word other than the girls who were not believed.
I was thinking it was becoming more like the way Ireland was in the 70's with all the bombings and violence.
You mean are we in "The Winter Of Discontent" where a ruling Labour Party had gone just about full blown Communist and paralyzed the country with economic decay and lawlessness? If so, I eagerly await our Maggie Thatcher.
Except in America the racism is mostly against Whites (some against Asians) and the sexism is against men. Also, the discrimination and harassment is often against Christians.
wait, you're claiming that America is full of hate and divided when over half your posts are stirring up shit to divide people?
Please, we are worse than that. Lol. The reason is people in this country don’t want to believe that there is racism and classism. And there are so many people here who are to loyal to hatred. It’s funny not funny.
Our problem is that people bring up race every chance they get and then tell us all that we shouldn't do things based on race. There is a definite political motivation in America to maintain tension between different races.
I was a mere baby in the 70's but yep that's what I've heard.
Umm, half of the UK just voted to kick out immigrants.
