-any kind of high volume restaurant experience
-knows how to upsell items
-is detail oriented
-a team player
-motivated to work / has a goal in life
-is willing to work weekends/ holidays
-has a personality that stands out/ has a likeable personality




This is probably my top list. I am a waitress but if I was a manager, that’s what I would look for

If you are looking to get a job somewhere I highly suggest you make a study guide of the wines/ drinks they sell and bring it to the interview. That will give them a clue that you have looked at their menu, what they have to offer as a restaurant and that you are motivated to learn their menu so you can upsell. I did this and instantly got the job

I would look for signs of leadership as confidence and signs of humility - so humility could be working as a nanny or volunteering to clean up garbage or working part time while going to school - confidence could be, led a political campaign by canvassing door to door, displayed self created art work in a public library, worked as a camp counsellor for kids.

Poise and charm. A good memory for names and faces. The ability to take and schedule reservations, keep the restaurant orderly, make sure the customers are content, and keep track of what's going on at each table.

Knowing how to speak French would be a plus. It would also be important to know about French cuisine and wine.
