Why are people in America so offend by the word "cunt", but when people in Australia use the word no one cares?

I’m actually very intrigued by this too. I’m kind of against the concept of “curse words” in general, that just seems kind of dumb and arbitrary. “That’s a BAD word!” “Bro…. WHAT?”😂 And if it’s not arbitrary, the history of why the word was originally decided to be bad is probably lost in the wash at this point. Like, without looking anything up, why is “fuck” a bad word? I’m guessing most people can’t tell me. Shit, I can’t tell you, haha. And if someone COULD tell me, it’d probably be some shit like “well, in the 17th century, the Middle English word “fucketh”, meaning to…..” blah, blah, blah, some weird outdated concept based around sexual repression or some other strange custom. And quite honestly, I’m just not taking any social cues from long-dead people, I’m sorry. We do way too much shit in life based upon how dead people once lived. That’s kind of crazy, you can’t really apply their values to ours. Times change, people change, you can’t just be like “THIS! This is it! 1784, we got it down PERFECT! Let’s make sure we apply these same exact principles in 2021, which should be exactly like it is today!”

Anyway, tangents aside….. I’ve gotten kind of into “cunt” in recent years. I guess I try to hold it back in certain company, but beyond my feelings on swear words, these levels to swear words are even crazier. “Shit isn’t as bad as fuck which isn’t as bad as cunt.” Can’t make this kind of nonsense up🤦‍♂️😂

Words are almost never inherently offensive. Any word can become offensive if people use it that way. Every country and culture has words that are offensive. They aren't going to be the same words in one country as they are in others.

Yea, "cunt" is very offensive in the US, because people use it that way. "Vagina" has the same meaning as cunt, but it's not offensive because it's not used that way. In the US, the word cunt has taken on a whole new meaning.

Americans are a bit of a contradiction. We're a culture that embraces sexuality but in a really prudish way. Our stars a bunch of prior strippers and porn stars, but we have a problem with women breastfeeding around us. People say the F word every other sentence and call each other the B word endearingly but if someone calls you a P!@# or a C!@# its time to throw hands.

It makes sense to us but to any outsider it must be confusing.

Oh I totally will use it in both my writing and if someone is acting like one. Honestly it's pretty tame in comparison to the stuff my wife says to people so I'm not sure why it gets such hate.

Lots of Americans are stupid prudes! If feminists actually knew where the word, "vagina" comes from,. they'd be the FIRST ones to ban it and probably switch to "cunt", a word that has no other meaning (other than a derogatory name to call someone you don't like at all).

Because of the cultural differences between the two cultures. Calling someone a wee fanny in Scotland is pretty offensive, but you tell someone that in America, they'll look at you funny and wonder why you seemingly tried to call them a fanny pack.
