 Some Texas residents are asking for greater say in what titles appear on public library shelves. “I think we owe it to all parents, regardless if it’s a school library or a public library, to make sure that material is not inappropriate for children,” Llano County Judge Ron Cunningham said. The Llano County community’s push to scrutinize the local library’s book stacks comes two months after a Texas lawmaker first questioned the inclusion of more than 850 books about race, equality or sexuality in public school libraries. No books should never be banned. converting everything to digital you can change whatever you want. you can wipe out entire parts of history. at least with print you can change sure but the orginal copy will still be there. quick question what are you going to do if everything that you know right now just went black, dead etc. no power etc. if everything were digital no one would have anyway to learn or to rebuild. you think someone knows everything? no thats why books should never brought up about being banned.

Seriously though, the elephant in the room is that if kids are taking these books out, then the library will bring more of such in. Hence they should be talking to their kids, not the library, on book choices.

Texas resident here, and I'm not in favor of banning books. This includes books that talk about sensitive topics including race, gender, and sexual orientation. I think having a diverse opinion in the shelves is necessary, and it's even more necessary for students to know there is always someone who opposes what they believe. It builds character in my opinion.

Banning books from a library when the parents of those children can pick and choose which books their kids read is absurd. If they don't want their kid to read something, fine. But don't tell ME what I can read. I am perfectly capable of deciding for myself. So is everyone else.

Texas is stupid I can’t imagine any state that would actually vote yes on banning books from public library’s let’s just hand over the constitution if you give them an inch they’re gonna take a mile freedom of speech is one of our most important freedoms now I believe as far as school libraries up to say at least 8th grade the books should be age appropriate then in high school let there be a bit more mature books no porn or anything like that but some books about everything from death and murder to a sexual content like some of your educational books on sexuality and sex but public libraries there shouldn’t be any books banned of course only adults allowed in certain areas

The real reason to ban books is to hide the truth. No one care if someone publishes obvious false statements because almost no one would believe it and very few would read it. For example, would you even look at a book that claims the sun is 10 feet in diameter and revolves around earth. Or a book that claims there is a human man living on moon that build snowmen every Christmas from the snow that fall on the moon during Christmas.

What governments and others want to ban are the truth about their crimes and the truth that disproves their lies.

I do not agree morally with any sense of banning books or restricting them in anyway. And there is no such thing as a inappropriate book for children, and mostly a mature book that talks about stuff in such way's would only be readable and understandable by someone of age enough to read it.

Also in that case time to ban the bible. Bible is not "appropriate" for children right? (Not that they would even be able to read and understand it.)

Those two things are not equal. While I am absolutely against banning books, I definitely think that some books shouldn't be easily available for non-adults in a public library. Maybe create different sections like video stores used to have.

There are books that I really wish were banned from the country. Like “White Fragility” by Robin Diangelo, and any and all books on modern feminism. But being a writer myself and knowing that if it goes one way it has to go the other way too, I’d have to say that I’m against it. A public library shouldn't be held to the same standards as a school library. For example, "Lolita" is a classic, but probably not appropriate for a K-6 library.
