+1 yUm, the only people who want to ban all books are the... okay, I can't remember the sect, but there WAS a group of Christians who thought that it was morally wrong to learn to read.
I have heard tell of Republican groups trying to get certain books (mostly related to sexuality) removed from classrooms or school libraries, but iffy as it is, that's hardly the same thing as banning it outright (which wouldn't stand up under first Amendment pressure anyway; the days of Tropic of Cancer-style bullshit are long over).
The real action in this area is coming from the left these days; the pressure to censor, if not ban outright, the works of Dr. Seuss, Roald Dahl, and even the Harry Potter books (in order of increasing stupidity), seems to be rising; I can only assume somebody thought there was a lack of idiocy in modern politics and decided to ramp up production to compensate.
More specifically about Biden, the man only wants "freedom" in the sense of "being protected from Constitutional checks on governmental authority". The man's war on due process alone should've landed him on trial for treason a decade ago.

There was a time, when (a group of) Catholics wanted to burn most books, as they held the notion that ye olde Bible is/was the only true book. We have the human right to enjoy arts and sciences, and books (almost) always are both.
- +1 y
@HippieVeganJewslim You mean the prohibited books index? That was just what THEY weren't allowed to read.
- +1 y
My mum told me. They weren’t the only ones who wanted to destroy knowledge. This is the first time I’m hearing about the prohibited books index.
- +1 y
@HippieVeganJewslim Well, it's certainly possible that there's some splinter group I'm unaware of, but that one your mother mentioned was probably as legitimate as the claims that the Caliph Omar burned the library of Alexandria.
- +1 y
Not sure about Xalif Umar and burning of the library, but there was more than one occurrence, I daresay, not necessarily Catholics, but definitely some religious fanatics played some parts.
- +1 y
@HippieVeganJewslim The whole library thing was just an attempt to make Muslims look bad; the primary burning had taken place centuries earlier (and was caused by Julius Caesar, of all people).

Not wanting to spend tax payer dollars and abuse public authority to force kids to read certain books is a far cry from banning a book.
Personalty I am in favor of abolishing public schools all together and leaving the people to choose what form of education they deem best to spend their hard earned money on for their children. - +1 y
That’s mad. Gaivs Ivlivs lived before Christianity, and definitely Islam, was a thing, so some other people are to blame destroying knowledge. Could tell he was a bastard, but really burn books?

Biden running on "freedom"? Now that's more propaganda coming from a government and its state-controlled media which are heavily invested in illegal censorship, Orwellian "mis/disinformation" boards and illegal vaccine mandates.
The kinds of books that generally get removed from public school libraries are ones that are not age appropriate. They have sexual or violent content. One book recently removed in my local school district was a woman's account of being raped while she was in college. Not exactly something you want eight-year-olds to read.

Yes I’m listening to what our president is running on in 2024 and one of the things is he wants to defend freedoms (no book banning and reproductive rights) in the USA. Seems so far the slogan is to “finish the job”. So both Biden and Trump ( religious freedom and freedom of speech) are running on freedoms and rights so far as part of their agenda.
Do you believe when they use the word freedom they mean the same thing? - +1 y
Well, obviously it means different things to different people. But I haven't seen any Democrats condemn calls for rewriting classic books that used language we wouldn't use today (like some of Mark Twain's books). How do you expect to understand context, especially historical context, if you rewrite a book?

If Joe Biden believed in freedom he:
A) Wouldn't be spying on and persecuting his political enemies.
B) Nor would he have doubled the size of the IRS with highly intrusive rules tracking everyone's bank activities.
C) Nor would he declare his political enemies as enemies of the state Remember this speech?:Include a caption for your image…
D) Actively worked with and encourage tech companies to censor any idea or person they don't like.
I'm not sure we have had very many presidents in American history who have been less in-favor of freedom.
As for his claims of state level laws against abortion (ending anther person's life), and banning books from being bought by and taught in State Schools. Both are examples of our freedom to live, vote how our money is spent with our ballots and our feet.

Anonymous(25-29)+1 yThere is a two part plan to ban books from public libraries with LGBTQ content and to regulate speech in the classroom, namely discussions on race and sexuality. It’s a way to use force of government to control thought. Of course all of this is rightfully being challenged on first amendment grounds. If they get away with this garbage, you can bet more draconian restrictions will follow. You have to question the motives of anyone who makes information the enemy.

Hopefully we as citizens can vote for freedoms that are written in our constitution and be active to defend our democracy against those who want to change and defeat the ideals we were founded on.
Opinion Owner+1 y@Lliam Sure they do. They shape thought through the curriculums they teach. However, government is prohibited from regulating speech by the constitution….. and for good reason. If you disagree with what is taught in school, you work through your local school board. You don’t use force of government to ban speech or books. That’s about as un-American as it gets.
- +1 y
Right now it’s the lgbtq that are controlling thought and “making information the enemy.” Both sides are manipulating the public.
- +1 y
School boards are paid big money to teach certain curricula. The government absolutely influences what is taught in schools. Money is withheld if the schools don't comply. Right now, the government is pushing LGBT and "critical race theory".
Think about it. It's not coincidental that so many schools are suddenly now "woke". It's not because parents are demanding it.
Government has always had influence over what is taught in schools.

@Leapfrog00
There was never any such thing as a "Roe Vs Wade bill" and that in fact was the point. No-one ever voted on it!
"Roe Vs. Wade" was a lawless Federal court edict in 1973 issued by 7 un-elected and unaccountable Federal politicians in black robes. The edict presupposed there existed a very complex unwritten systems of legal requirements in the Federal Constitution heretofore never before known or enforced in the prior 186 years.
An unwritten requirement soo complex and unknown as to put most state laws enforced in that 186 years at odds with the 'law' they supposedly ratified and empowered.
Roe v. Wade just like every similar judicial edict is the act of an arbitrary dictator issuing degrees on a case by case basis.
Republicans like Democrats had no say in the matter of Roe vs. Wade, nobody did ever. - +1 y
@monorprise I thought it was part of the "Woman's Health Protection Act". Hmm, who knew, lol.
- +1 y
@Leapfrog00 Who knew? They don't typically name put v. s. in a act of congress.
As for the act Proposed by the house "Woman's Health Protection Act" This is no more constitutional than the federal edict given the compete absence of power in the Federal goverment on almost any domestic issue including but not limited to abortion.
Abortion just like every other kind of murder in our federal constitutional republic is a State issue, As it has been for 200+ years, unless it happens in a Federal district or territory. The only place where the Federal goverment enjoys state like powers.

You can buy them, but they are banned in their schools based on the counties
- +1 y
You originally said that biden is lying about banning books. So you gotta define the word “banning”. If indeed banning means no books can exist in the county that’s one definition. If banning means no books are purchased for the counties with taxes that’s another definition. Clearly the political strategy is to say banning that implies one definition to scare the left base (and independents).
It’s like CRT when conservatives warn about that in schools. It’s a political strategy to scare and divide. - +1 y

Also was against CRT i the schools and his stance on abortion was to enforce state law. He lost but really did not get much support from the RNC. His opponent was a lesbian who outspent him 10-1. Both republicans and democrats would prefer schools spend the tax payers money and authority teach different things.
Republicans tend to want schools to focus on history of the country, while democrats tend to want to push things like sexuality.
In both cases the Goverment schools are trying to squeeze into their schedule soo many things and doing each of them soo poorly that they tend to do a very poor job in all of them.
If your expecting to learn any subject in school you are probably barking up the wrong tree.

By proving them wrong. As in stop doing what your doing to so many other women and then have them spread it around to other woman on here. Seems like both parties are into banning things then
- +1 y
No, just the left.
- +1 y
Both based on the news

I don't pay attention "the news" because, most often it's NOT THE news, it's their version of what they want you to think is the news. That's why you believe the right want to ban books!!
- +1 y
Well books have already been banned, so it’s a fact a not a belief
- +1 y
Sure, a couple hundred years ago.
+1 yBan all books? Hell no! I'm really against it!
02 Reply- +1 y
I also don’t want all books banned. Sounds like that can’t happen thankfully
- +1 y
I can't imagine reading a novel from internet instead of holding the book itself, I can't live without the smell of old books and libraries!
"Was watching MSNBC tonight..."
Yeah, you really do need to stop doing that. :D

If you only watch one source of news you can be in an echo chamber
- +1 y
CNN, fox, msnbc, BBC, daily show, daily wire.. listen to npr and watch yt.
- +1 y
Can you suggest other sources?
+1 yStop watching mainstream news channels. It’s poison for your brain. That is ridiculous.

They might want to ban some books that deserve to be banned and they might want to push religion but they’ve always pushed religion.
- +1 y
They probably won’t be able to achieve these goals anyways or even be allowed to try.
Anonymous(36-45)+1 yMSNBC? They should probably stick to stalking jury buses and trying to intimidate jurors to influence the outcomes of high profile trials and stop outright lying about Republicans wanting to burn books. 🤣
