Yeap. Using myself as an example, I live out in the boons. Hunting animals makes up a fair chunk of my diet, so a gun helps in getting my food quickly and more ethically than say a bow or a spear. The distance to town, and the cost of going and buying it there is too much. Not only that, I live in an area with moose, bears and coyotes. They are dangerous animals and I need to protect myself, loved ones and my dogs from them. Guns allow me to do so with far more guarantee of success than other weapons. Plus there's the issue of self defense. Firearms are much more effective of a deterrent and a means of ending a threat than other methods. Especially so considering again, I live in the woods and it takes the cops roughly 20 to 30 minutes to arrive, a lot can be done to me before the cops even get to my house.

I generally favor stricter regulations on guns, but if you outlaw guns, only the outlaws will have them. Anyway, lots of people use guns for recreational purposes.

That will definitely help since 90% of all firearm related crimes are done with an illegal firearms and gun free zones/cities with stricter firearm laws have more firearm related crimes. There are places that have made it mandatory to have a firearm in your household and crime in the area goes down.
