"Never talk to a lady like that" "Watch your mouth. There are ladies present." Why does society want men to watch what they say in front of women?

I'm genuinely curious. Please be as honest and open as possible. Do you think this is good or bad for society? Ladies, do you like it this way?

A belief that women are fragile, and incapable of handling being sworn in front of. On a surface level, this makes no sense; while we've moved past the rougher aspects of survival-oriented living, life is still tough. When you look deeper, however, it actually makes ANTI-sense.

Think of the princess and the pea: would YOU want to be married to someone so sensitive that they can detect a lone pea placed under MULTIPLE mattresses? What would living with such a person be like? What would pregnancy be like for them? Parenthood? They wouldn't last five minutes.

It's really conspicuous consumption in its ultimate form; a way of a society saying "I'm so rich that HALF MY OWN POPULATION is all but useless, and I get by anyway".

Because they are so easily offended by words. After Trump apologists dismissed his "grab em by the P*ssy" comment as just "locker room talk" most women I know loudly proclaimed that men don't talk like that among themselves. I am progressive and have never voted for a Republican in my life but I and every guy I know explained that, "yes, men DO talk about women like that when there are no women around" and everyone who did also added "but of course I never said things like that". But, yeah, guys DO talk like that, even the ones you think don't.

I think it’s just an outdated concept. Women were once meant to be soft spoken , polite and proper.
I personally don’t care, and swear like a sailor myself most times. I had a male coworker apologize to me once cause he was swearing on a phone call, told him it didn’t bother me at all lol

It's normal to behave in the presence of the opposite gender. Females does it too. So it's not one sided. It all a part of the lesson to find a good partner.

Etiquette and good manners means you do not speak bad things in front of women and children. Society in general doesn't give a shit, unless it's in important company.
