Should immigrants be forced to assimilate to the country they are relocating to, to accept that country's culture, laws and way of life, why, why not?

To an extent. We need basic values to be united on. But taking a way who someone is, who there family is, what they've known for so long, is wrong. They should uphold the constitution and basic American values, but they can also upheld there values and we can find a way to be more compassionate and let them co exist. But to be honest I do not know the bad guys in politics and government like to divide us over issues like this, it is always hard to know what the right answer is But we should respect racial minority for there choices
It will make their lives a lot easier, but they should not be forced to give up their heritage. Keep where they came from but assimilate enough to be productive member of society.
I do not agree that the government (s) should have to provide translators or paperwork in all these languages, seems a good way to cut expenses right there. Learn the dominant language and keep your heritage.
My family assimilated before I was born and people often say I talk like a white girl (not white) but its how I was raised and I know of no other way. Yet we still remember where we came from and celebrate various holidays, get togethers and events.
The real question is what you mean exactly by assimilate. I see it really in just learning the language and being a productive member of society.
Yes they should. The schools should not be required to teach kids in their own language. They do not have enough teachers as there is so having a teacher to teach other than Spanish and English is about all they can muster. I remember my high school had teachers for French, Spanish, German, English, and Latin of all things. I took Latin and German - Latin in case I wanted to be a doctor, and German for the hell of it as I was required to have 2 languages. Can't speak much German (only had 1 year) and of course no one speaks Latin so it was a waste of time.
MY ancestors were both Scottish and English. Assimilating wasn't difficult for us. But someone that had ancestors that were stolen from their homeland against their will most definitely didn't have the same abilities to assimilate. Their children through the years should be allowed to celebrate their heritage, just as some celebrate St. Patrick's Day or Columbus Day. It certainly would be easier for US if they would learn our language, but I certainly don't expect them to give up their own heritage.

Must be forced. Or at least if you are trying to settle in a country, you should take the trouble to learn their language, adopt their culture and, if possible, never stab the locals in the back. They do not have the right to disturb the peace of the country where they will go as immigrants or live as a minority. And the part of the local population that welcomes these refugees should not forget that if too much tolerance is given to these minorities, they will begin to destroy the country they went to as immigrants. Therefore, the mild nationalist section of the local population should do its best on this issue.
I think immigrants should be encouraged to embrace the country they are going to be living in's language and culture. Obviously, they need to follow its laws as well. However, they should also continue to value their culture and language without receiving negative reactions.
yes. otherwise conflict with them is inevitable. history shows us this
consider in 1700 when vietnamese refugees fled to cambodia into the mekong delta... then turned around and said the mekong delta was theirs and went to war with cambodia over it... annexing it into vietnam
immigration without assimilation always results in conquest
Also, see South Ossetia and Crimea.
Yes I agree. Nobody should move to a place they are fundamentally at odds with.
I could never move to a muslim country and be a faithful citizen.
But I could move to some latin country and I’d like to think I’d do alright. I’m willing to learn the language and I believe in family values and I love Christ Jesus.
Certain things but not lose their culture all together and unfortunately with the younger generation of immigrants children and grandchildren I see it happening. Muslim for instance, when the older generation is still wearing hijabs a lot of the younger women don’t want to because of American influence. It kind of makes me upset to see that. If they choose not to be Muslim that’s fine but if they are and they want to be like American women it’s disrespectful to their culture in my opinion.
Bah humbug! They only wear them because if they don't they get beaten by their husband or family. I bet most would love to get rid of them and dress with more modern attire. I mean you don't see Jews walking around in long robes and sandals.
Yes because the culture of the place makes it unique and these immigrants clearly want to be a part of it. Ideally, as far as the US goes, its basically to respect the rights of others as it is laid out in the constitution and they should fit in just fine.
You can’t force assimilation. Quite practically impossible. For example, how are you going to prove someone is assimilated enough to practice domestic culture at home? You can’t.
Assimilation is unreasonable to expect anyway
They should not be forced, but their inability to assimilate should not be coddled.
Immigrants to me are the same as tourists. All of them have to know the laws of the land at least and abide by them. That's all that really matters.
No. Everyone can do what they like within the confines of not harming others.
In smaller countries assimilation is more rapid than in larger countries.
No, Amaerica is a free country. We should not be bending over backwards to provide translators and have street signs in a dozen languages though.
No, Diversity is what makes a country strong. Let immigrants bring their culture with them and melt it in with others in their new country.
No. There’s no need to force it. If the person feels pressure (from work or school) to learn English, great. If they don’t feel pressure, cool too. That’s freedom.
They should assimilate 80%. They shouldn't be forced to assimilate 100%.
No, they should only be allowed to get in if they already do to a large extent.
Remember in islam its okay to have child sex slaves.
Laws, of course, the rest are optional.
I think they should go by our Laws
Follow the laws everything else is there choice
Absolutely!
learn English

İt's not good thing
