Something that's been quite prominent this MLK Day is the attempts by the right to appropriate the legacy of Martin. They claim that they are the ones who are following his principles of a society where people are not judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character. They say that the left is stoking racism and are the "real racists" for seeing black people as poor victims.
But something MLK was very clear was that you can't just give black people legal equality and expect economic equality to self actualize. That's why instead of ending the Civil Rights Movement with the passing of the SECOND Civil Rights Act, he started the second phase to give Black Americans the same economic standing.
Judging people not by the color of their skin but by the content of their character does not preclude you from recognizing that historic injustices still impact marginalized groups to this day. So the only mantle that the New Right has inherited is that of the purple haired SJW boogey feminist who calls everything that they don't agree with 'racist'; except now if you so much as acknowledge a racial disparity they'll say "see, you associate black people with poverty/crime/educational underachievement" in a vain attempt to project their racist attitude like everyone else. And they'll try to use the Bailey and Motte fallacy by saying "well I think black people can succeed like everyone else". Well no shit, some former slaves became millionaires even before MLK (for those who try to say systemic racism isn't a problem because of a few rich black people) but just because black people could succeed under Jim Crow, it doesn't change the fact that it was a fucked up system that made it harder for black people to succeed.
At least Crowder's honest about it; if MLK was reincarnated, the right would want him put in the ground again.
Now all they can do is try to cancel him.
