A 6 month old baby killed in Atlanta. It was caught in crossfire between two rivals. Is US proud to be a gun toting place?

If you look at it objectively. in the united states there are more guns than there are human beings. some 393 million guns. we hold 43% of all civilian held guns in the world. most gun deaths in this country are lumped together bringing the total to 37000 ish gun deaths in 2019... then you account for the fact that 61% of those are suicide bringing that number down to 14430 gun deaths. take another 6 thousand off that for accidental shootings and self defensive uses of fire arms we are left with 8430 gun homicides in 2019 in the USA. 92% of those are committed with stolen fire arms and 78% of all that crime is committed via inner city gang violence ( as you said she was killed by two rival gang members). out side of most major urban population centers your chances of being killed by a fire arm in the usa is some 1 in 37 million. https://crime-data-explorer.app.cloud.gov/pages/home

So in essence we do not have a gun problem we have a criminal problem. For example 4 out of the top 10 safest states in the united states are constitutional carry states. Meaning states where you do not need a permit to conceal carry a fire arm. the rest are loose and have ample protections for legal fire arm owners. as where most of the most dangerous cities and states have some of the tightest gun laws in our country. the logic is simple. criminals are not looking for a fight they go were their victims are less likely to be armed states and cities that make it very difficult for law abiding gun owners to be armed. most mass shooters select their targets based on whether they are areas where you are allowed to carry a gun. if we tightened punishment for criminals and insured that they stayed in prison. while allowing more citizens easier access to fire arms we would cut that number even lower.

The FBI did a study on fire arms. they called it "time to crime" they pulled the data of all legal fire arm owners in the US and tried to figure out from the moment a gun is legally purchased by a responsible gun owner how long would that gun need to be in circulation before it is used to commit a crime ( murder homicide assault) it was found that a gun would need to be in circulation an average of 770 years before it would ever be used in a crime. 9 years if it is ever stolen or lost.

Brazil and Mexico have far stricter gun laws than the USA but have a gun homicide rate nearly triple ours. Gun violence will exist as long as the human condition continues to be how it is and as long as the 2nd amendment exists. And I'm 100% behind the 2nd amendment.

Other countries don't have people shooting people but humans are violent creatures. You ban guns and they start killing with knives. You ban knives and they'll kill with rocks. You ban rocks and they'll kill with their bare hands.

Also I don't know if you know this but criminals are criminals. You can make guns illegal and criminals will still have guns because they're criminals and don't respect the law. If they did, they wouldn't be criminals. 🤯

The reality is that criminal violence largely comes down to genetics and bad parenting, but both of those are really tied to genetics in the end. Thus, fixing the issue comes down to two possible solutions: genetic engineering and incentives. For the first idea, we need to complete our process of identifying the genes associated with criminal violence and low impulse control while coming up with an approach to engineer these out of the populace. This is probably still a couple decades away at a minimum, but it's a good end goal. The second approach, however--which we could do in the mean time--requires strong disincentives to override the genetic propensity for violence: this means immediate, brutal, violent penalties for violent crimes, hooliganry, and murder. This could be accomplished through public lashings and executions, as well as massively ramped-up police presence, in high crime areas. This would also involve giving the police more authority to investigate such crimes; of course, this opens up the potential for corruption, so similarly harsh penalties need to be instituted and carried out against those law enforcement officials who breach their duties. All in all, these steps would constitute a sensible course of action.

How is the second amendment responsible for the existence of violent gangs?

There are 330 million American citizens and more like 450 million people in this country at any one time. There are between 15,000 and 20,000 firearm related homicides per year and the FBI estimates that 80% of those are gang related. That means that there are fewer than 4000 non-gang related firearm homicides.

I don't understand how disarming every honest American citizen will prevent gangs from obtaining weapons and committing violence.

I think other factors other than the right to own guns are responsible for gang violence. But nobody wants to address those. I fact, I think the powers that be publicize instances of gun violence and politicize "the gun problem" in order to distract from the real problems. There are also other motives why elites want the American public disarmed.

I can't think of a year there wasn't gun violence since they were invented. before that was sword violence. the problem isn't the gun.. it's humans.

Awful. What ya going to do about it? removing the guns is not possible, criminals will get them.

the options are to execute the criminals so they don't do this again and others get the message.
Discipline children when young so they obey rules. that means tough on criminal behavior.
analyze the demographics of who is committing crime, focus resources there. Is there a pattern?

Literally never. Take a look at that terrorist attack in "gun free" France a few years back. Somehow, despite guns being completely banned, some terrorists were able to get them into the country and killed a bunch of people with them.

To everyone who says that gun violence is because of availability of guns and law abiding citizens owning them. I have been to countries where there have been ethnic massacres, where some men came to a village, literally went house to house, took away the men (15-60) lined them up against the wall and shot them. Now if the law abiding villages had guns to defend themselves this would not have happened. This is more of a law and order problem. Criminals having access to guns and the socio-economic conditions being such that illicit drugs and gangs being a factor.

'Gun violence' will end when the police and judiciary start prosecuting to the fullest extent of the law as it currently stands, no new laws needed, if you look at the FBI's own figures the top 20 cities for 'gun violence' all happen to be Democrat controlled and they also have the tightest firearms regulations in the country so their affirmation that stronger firearms laws will reduce 'gun violence' doesn't hold water.
The UK where I live has the tightest firearms laws in the western world but 'gun violence' still happens because the Criminals who pay no attention to the law get their guns from the European Black Market, and if guns are not available they'll go for any weapons of opportunity like kitchen knives, screw drivers, hammers, baseball bats etc.

Ultimately it needs a government with the political will to stop 'gun violence' and I do not a government willing to do that.

Interesting how crime runs rampant when DAs stop prosecuting crime, release the accused without bail, then the accused commits more crimes, and is released without bond again. Somehow this is all the constitution’s fault.
