Where I grew up, guns in every man's cabinet... very low crime... they were used to hunt and protect and show pieces. families were responsible, never talk of hurting anyone or threatening. The problem is culture... not guns.
One approach is to remove the gun... but why not address the underlying cultural problems... or is that too complicated? I think we'd have more success in the end defending the family institution, good values and morals.. discipline. Criminals don't follow laws.
Take away guns from all, you've got the risks Germans and Chinese had before they were executed in mass. XX, XXX, XXX million murdered is not good either.519 Reply- +1 y

10 thugs. 10 people dressed with hoods and masks invaded property, broke into facility (causing $$$$ damage), stole property... and had no rights to any of it. Some were armed. How would you label the 10 people we encountered described above?

I answered your question and you evaded mine. what do you call people who did what they did? can't ask me to remove my protection (gun) without offering a solution first.
some of the guns are, even small ones... as long as have right to use it without fear. it's balance of power against corrupt humans. that's the concept.
granted, it's awful to see what corrupt humans will do with a gun and they can do a lot of damage in short time. gun constraints are valid. difficulty is... criminals/gangs (bully personalities) don't obey laws., they don't obey order and they don't care about others. you have to solve that first.
that's frustrating but the truth. I'm all ears for solutions to put thugs/criminals/gangs away and prevent their creation.

Well i dont know what your argument is "it's balance of power against corrupt humans." Like what the fuck? what is a "corrupt human"? And its not always criminals who use guns to kill others. The fact is, guns are easy to access for anyone, which means more people who would use it to harm others will use it to harm others.

all humans are corrupt and selfish... we'll the majority. The consitution gives rights to gun and you know why.
If no guns are allowed, then who is going to protect... the 90yr old lady against an intruder that will ruin her life? Answer... the police. but they aren't always available. So it's up to her to have sufficient power to counter the strength of say... a 20yr old male who doesn't care about her. Thus, a gun is the balance of power. She could use a dog as well. you must solve the 90yr old womans problem before taking her gun away.
Even if you do, yo've got problems with governments... Mao, Hitler and others. There's just no way those guns are going away... That makes you feel sad, I don't love it, I don't want to see people hurt. But guns aren't the problem or solution.
Do you have another solution?
you want everyone to be happy in a big loving world and merily get along. Don't want any suffering. Sounds great, please design your world

My new approach is to ban guns... for use by politicians personal security teams and politicians. Kamala and Pelosi can't have armed security. Do this for 20-30 years. Then the rest of us can consider if we really need them. That will solve the problem for sure.
+1 y"When will people stop defending guns?"
Good question. I wasn't aware that any gun had EVER been prosecuted for ANY crime. This, of course, could be attributed to the fact that NO gun has EVER committed ANY crime. And this, of course, could be attributed to the fact that guns are inanimate objects; as are knives, or baseball bats, or hammers!
When will felons stop getting plea deals when charged with multiple successive crimes? I don't know because NO felon has EVER received a plea... oh, wait. Never mind.
My family has always owned guns for our protection and I'm glad we do. Although a crime against us is unlikely where we live, it IS possible so I would much rather we HAVE guns and never need them than to NEED them and not have any.21 Reply- +1 y
Thank you, @chefpapichulo, for the MHG. It's a shame we can't have more civil discussion but what I see so much is name-calling and histrionics and a total denial of reality. People can not LIKE something, but that doesn't make that something inherently dangerous.
I think cell phones should be BANNED in cars (I have a cousin in another state who was seriously injured because some idiot thought using his phone was more important than driving his truck). So, are cell phones the cause of that accident? NO, it was the driver who was holding the cell phone. BUT... hey, if we just outlawed cell phones, then there wouldn't be any scary cell phones to distract people and we'd all NEVER be in another accident, right?
Of course not. That's stupid. It's hyperbole. But it's the same argument I see here, in many cases. But we can't discuss that. We can only label each other. Nothing will ever be solved by that.

+1 yThere are all kinds of news reports and videos of people defending themselves during active home invasions using guns, and usually the home invaders are armed as well. firearms as well. Invasions happen every day all across the country. Sometimes it's only one person trying to gain entry, but oftentimes it's as many as three or four.
One invasion that sticks in my mind was thwarted by a young, recently-widowed woman with a newborn in the house. While the invasion was happening, she was actually on the phone with the police dispatcher, who told her that the police were coming but were still several miles away and that it's up to her to defend her and her child in any way possible, which turned out to be her late husband's firearm.
Several others invasions feature kids as young as thirteen or fourteen successfully defending even younger siblings in the house after multiple invaders have gained entry.
In another incident, as three men were gaining entrance to his house, it was the sound of the homeowner merely cocking his firearm that drove them off.
As far as gun owners thwarting mass shootings, there's a video of a man acting strangely after entering a Texas church and after a short while randomly opened fire. He got two shots off before a nearby churchgoer who'd been observing his odd behavior took him out with his own firearm. Even had that churchgoer failed or was killed, there were three other churchgoers seen with their firearms drawn just in case.
Another incident occurred in I believe another southern state where an armed man walked toward the entrance to a restaurant and shot two people who were either standing near the entrance or were coming out of the joint. More damage would've been done if the civilian walking a few yards behind the shooter didn't use his firearm to eliminate the threat.
I'm pressed for time right now so I can't find the actual links to the videos and news stories at the moment.00 ReplyI will when someone cares enough about being competent they can quote, from memory, because they've researched thoroughly, the 2nd amendment (many give excuses like time, effort, not realizing it's 1 sentence), that already tells me they don't care to know what they're talking about, as I can count on 1 hand the number of individuals who have bothered to look at what the amendment says, or the fact those who lived under British imperialism that drove its creation likely knew more about tyrannical government & the price of not having firearms than they did.
Someone who is willing to argue against their own beliefs, and admit opposition have valid points; another rarity in today's ignorant, incompetent, narcissistic attention-span-of-a-goldfish society... you didn't mention anything about government tyranny in your argument - look to Hitler's Germany, or the Soviet Union - they weren't allowed private gun ownership, yet far more were killed by tyrannical governments (many times over) than all the "mass shootings" in the past 100 years.21 Reply- +1 y

Guns are part of life. They aren't going away.
Why defend earthquakes and tornados and murders, robberies, drugs, car accidents or disease... etc?
Evil people going to do evil things, dumb/carless people are going to do dumb/careless things, the earth is going to do deadly things, disease is going to do deadly things.
These are things of this world. You can do your best to try and keep yourself safe you can take safeguards but these things exist and we cannot control them all.
Guns exist. I guess you wish they didn't but that is not reality. You can't make guns go away or pass some magic law that makes gun violence go away.
Criminals don't even get legal guns they do most of the shooting and killing. Just like prohibition... people didn't stop drinking. People will never stop getting and using guns so "laws" cannot help you.

If I say nuclear bombs are "just an inanimate object", does that mean they are now free for anyone to use? Aha. There are weapons that are banned even in war, because of how deadly they are. And that's for military use. We are civilians, so the bar should be lower, not higher. In other words, the military should have more access to certain weapons than civilians, because they are specifically trained to protect the country, while you are just protecting yourself.

@DarkWinterNights
Certain weapons are intentionally designed to be easily modified to make them fully automatic.
In addition, I've actually seen television shows of machinists in the United States making homemade machine guns, including a 50 caliber machine gun mounted on a trailer.
Don't try to pretend this isn't happening when people can buy an AK-47 on the internet with no background check and it arrives the next day. - +1 y
@Wade12345, Building your own machine gun or any type of automatic firearm without being a Type 3 Federal Firearms Licensee (manufacturers) is a felony punishable by 10 years in federal prison. Ordering any type of firearm online without an FFL transfer and background check is also a felony in all states.
- +1 y
@DarkWinterNights
Must not be. They did it and test fired it on nation wide television on NatGeo on American soil.
The mass murderers get the automatic weapons on the internet or from their family's collection. Most these teenage murderers people don't have direct ties to the Mafia and don't know how to get an automatic weapon unless someone in their family already owns one or like I said, they bought it on the internet, like the Gabby Giffords shooter or the guy who dressed up as the joker and shot up the theatre, James holmes whatever. He bought the gun from the internet.. - +1 y
They can't process those thoughts. They'll respond in the most predictable ways possible.
- +1 y
@Wade12345, It absolutely is. If they did it for television they likely had a licensed individual doing the work and got the proper permits. The ATF has raided random people’s homes for car parts, they aren’t going to miss a televised event.
As for your other topics, there is a difference between semi-automatic and automatic. If you care to read some of the stats that aren’t seeped in anti-gun propaganda, this site breaks down a lot of the common misconceptions and misinformation surrounding mass shootings.

So? I'm sure there are people who love cars who ran people over with them. Violence does not stem from firearms. They are merely a tool. Fertilizer and diesel fuel can do in mere seconds what would take a rifleman an hour. Even a semi-truck can and has been used as a tool for mass murder, and it took that guy less than 30 seconds. You gonna ban them too? Having guns is a necessary evil. When citizens go rogue, they kill dozens. When governments go rogue, they kill millions.

60% of convicted felons have stated that they avoided committing a crime if they knew the victim was armed, and 40% of them said they wouldn't commit the crime if they thought the victim might be armed. Fewer than 1% of firearms are used in crimes overall.
Don't need to get into a big political debate here, but when one political party is releasing violent criminals back onto the streets, and stats show and prove that those criminals will keep committing crimes, then it only makes sense that people would want a gun to help protect their families from that shit.- +1 y
Sir do you know how to create a concise argument? how did those guns help save lives?
You copy and pasted from a conservative site with sponsors. That's not a credible site for information. And they got it from some gun. facts. info bullshit website. Get your facts straight dumbass and learn how to create an argument.
As for the whole tirade about "one political party is releasing violent criminals back into society, stay on point you fucking idiot. - +1 y
Yrur sites are not any more credible!!
- +1 y
@fireforeffect okay
Opinion Owner+1 ymy facts ARE straight. lmao. Those are the numbers. The only people who dispute them are the anti-gun nuts. That should tell you something. It's not my fault if you're so dumb that you don't realize how a gun would be used to save a life. You come at someone who has a gun, and they stop you with their gun. The end.
Did you know that black women are the #1 purchasers of new firearms today? So are you racist or just anti-woman that you don't want them to be able to protect themselves? Not everyone can afford to hire you as their personal bodyguard and dog food chef.- +1 y
"That should tell you something"
tells me you're an idiot who can't argue.
Opinion Owner+1 ymy stats have been used on every non-bias news site across the globe. As I said, the anti-gun nuts are the ONLY ones who dispute it, but they offer up no other stats to counter. Argue that. lol.
If you don't know anybody that's had to use a gun to protect themselves or their family, then you're lucky. I personally do.
I'm also smart enough to know that when less than 1% of a thing in existence is used for evil, then the problem is not that the thing exists. The problem is with the people who choose to use that thing for evil.- +1 y
"my stats have been used on every non-bias news site across the globe"
You're literally a retard. - +1 y
You certainly are a hateful person.
- +1 y
@fireforeffect bro stop posting on my question with nonsensical bullshit. like go elsewhere.
Opinion Owner+1 yit appears that you are the one who cannot argue. Where are your stats to counter those that I've produced? You have none. You anti-gun nuts have none. As I stated, my stats are quoted everywhere. Where are yours? I'll wait. Typical liberal. You can't argue against my points so you resort to personal attacks.
Opinion Owner+1 ythey've been quoted in news articles from Australia to Japan to England. That's a pretty big range. The biggest problem with the stats from anti-gun sites is that they purposefully include suicides when they quote "number of gun deaths.
- +1 y
I have no clue what you’re arguing. But the stats you gave earlier are from a gun nut site and sourced from another gun but site. They are biased and I read the article where you got those stats from. It’s complete dog shit and biased. When you learn how to create an argument, or provide real information worth refuting I’ll respond. Until then go back to school retard.
- +1 y
If you defund the cop who is going to defend your family a social worker that has to wait for a cop to show to escort them to the crime being committed. You want my gun come and take it. Next my bow and arrows and hunting knives too
- +1 y
@DARKCLOUD1945X no has said anything about defunding cops. you are under some kind of mind control talking that nonsense on here.
- +1 y
@DARKCLOUD1945X try that again without the insane rant.
- +1 y
Sorry but I am dropping out of this because of all of the bullshit offered up by the anti gun nuts are throwing around I just cannot stop laughing at what they are saying
You know what's funny? Those gun nuts believe they own guns to "defend themselves from the government" whatever that is, but they are the one's that the government should defend itself from, if you remember last year's insurrection at the Capitol.

Anonymous(36-45)+1 yWhen will people understand that most guns used in crimes are obtained illegally? Banning guns will not solve anything. Maybe instead of wasting money bombing brown people in the middle east, we spend that money on better education and dealing with mental health issues.
+1 yNever. At a minimum guns in the US save 300,000 lives upwards to how many. You have a better chance of dying from a direct lightning strike as opposed to dying in a mass shooting. Keep bitching though, it gets you real far.
20 Reply1.7K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. Guns are not a problem. There are countries where gun laws are liberal (not as liberal as in USA, but still) such as Czech Republic or Switzerland and they have very little shootings and homicides. Problem is somewhere else.

Tf you talking about. Switzerland is a country of like 8 million with tons of wealth. That’s like the size of one US city.

Poverty = more crime. Switzerland is a small country with a lot of wealth. Comparing the US to Switzerland is retarded.

Might as well start comparing Antarctica with the US now too. There’s no guns there and no violent gun crime. Lmao gtfo kid.

Wrong.

he did, duh! - +1 y
that article you posted can easily be debunk for the fact that again Hitler did said it himself that disarming a nation is the easiest way to conquer it. also whether the Jews made 1% of the population or not you do remember that the genocides of the Jews was not the only agenda the Nazis have. these people also wanted to conquer the world and how did they get as far as they did during WW2? oh I know how, by taking away the only tools those nations had to defend themselves

thats nonsensical. stop posting garbage.

121 Reply- +1 y
im not even going to ask how thats relevant. i dont expect much out of you or people like you.
- +1 y
Yes, he is. He likely thinks AR means Assault Rifle, too.
- +1 y
@joeldalton Ar 15 stands for Arma Lite Rifle. It's not an assault rifle, and even if it was, it doesn't make it more dangerous than an m1 garand or something. Ar 15 originally came in.223 remington, when the military wanted an automatic assault rifle. The original copy was renamed the m16. M16 started branching off into the m16a1, m16a2, m16a3, and m16a4. Some of those are automatic, some are burst fire. All have the capacity for semi auto. After the m16a2 came the m4, which is shorter, and is actually a carbine. M4s can be selected to fire bursts, or in semi auto. The military likes to use semi auto for precision firing, and honestly semi auto is more dangerous than automatic, unless you're in a situation where you're nearly point blank. The requirements I believe for an assault rifle qualification is a pistol grip, ability to mount things on the barrel, telecoping stock, and a select fire switch. The ar15 platform sold to civvie markets isn't an assault rifle. Usually its not even a rifle, it's a carbine.
- +1 y
@blissinanarchy1 yes, I know.
- +1 y
@joeldalton I'm against open carry 100%. I lived in the inner city, and I'm not "flexing" but seen open carriers TWICE get attacked with absolutely no warning. The one was murdered. Shot in the back of his head, had his gun took. Other one was sucker punched, was unconcious, had his gun took. Im all for concealed carry. Not open carry.
- +1 y
@blissinanarchy1 I am for open carry. Carry openly at your own risk. Not the responsibility of government to have you make good decisions.
- +1 y
@joeldalton I just don't understand wanting to advertise having a gun. You can do what you need to do, probably even more effectively, concealed
- +1 y
LOL this is hilarious. It's like watching monkeys trying to screw in a lightbulb.
- +1 y
You're not the primary target, you have more time to react. If I run into a store trying to rob it, and it looks like noone got a gun, im focused on getting money out the drawer. My ass gonna get shot by the guy I didn't know had a gun. If I run in to rob a store, and see you got a gun, now I know im either going to prison or the morgue, so you're the first one im shooting. Reality is, there are PLENTY of people that dont get deterred by guns, they escalate.
- +1 y
@blissinanarchy1 fine, you don’t have to open carry. But don’t deny others the right.
- +1 y
@joeldalton I don't know man. A lot of people, whethers its liberals, conservatives, and anywhere in between, feel invincible when they get a gun. People think if they were in some type of situation they'd do this this and that

Guns are literally created to kill. That was the purpose of making them. The first guns were cannons, that were meant to bring down city walls, and to shred men into pieces. So please do educate yourself.
