Guns stop violence every day?

As we all know, the only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun, is a good guy with a gun What are your ideas how we can get more good people to carry (just like the bad guys always do)

Of course if you disarm the people it's the freaks & criminals that have them. Ask the people who hate guns if they would willing to put a sign infront of their house saying we aren't gun owners & they will say NO & explain because we don't want criminals and robbers trying to come here. But you don't want guns so why would you not wanna advertise it? They make no sense.

I believe in “shall issue” rather than “may issue” laws for concealed carry permits. Hawaii is a “will not issue” state. Not one person in Hawaii has an active concealed carry permit, so criminals know they are safe.

You can't force people to carry a gun if they don't feel comfortable or want to, that is their decision and one that should be respected even if you disagree with it. That has to be a decision that one makes on their own.

Now I would say firearm safety courses alongside concealed carry should be explained to those who actively disagree about the need to have guns or those that are afraid of them. Also showing statistics of gun violence across the board. Inform them of their state's gun laws and this is a key part, allow them time on the floor for Q&A questions to those that support the right to carry a weapon to explain their stances and see if a level of common understanding can be had and it goes to an agree to disagree.

Every time. one of these shootings take place you have both sides fired up, one in defense for firearms and the others calling for increased regulation to outright confiscation because of the actions of one individual.

Supporters of guns don't want to hear the left because the knee jerk it boils down to is them wanting to take something away from them or severely limiting their capabilities of having the privilege of owning a gun which does nothing in terms of law abiding citizens compared to repeat offenders that keep walking the street and using guns daily. It won't stop them or even the playing field. Repeat felons have no remorse or care for those they affect in violent crime.

Now going to the opposite end, we have those that want more regulation to outright banning of firearms for civilians and only allowing police and military to have them. Maybe they fear them because of what they have been exposed to in movies, video games and media. Maybe they had personal encounters with a gun or been on the wrong side of one. End of the day, they don't want people to kill or hurt others with tools designed for the purpose of killing something effectively. It is also possible they don't understand the lifestyle of those that need high caliber weapons such as farmers for protection of livestock and crops. They don't know the habits of every gun owner or their personal firearm use and blanket the majority of them under rednecks that don't care about lives lost or are conspiracy theorists that the government will take guns away if we introduce any form of regulation.

This can be summed up to preservation of life at the end of the day. One side wants to prevent people from dying, the other wants to be able to exercise their given right to own a firearm for means of sport, recreation and defense and not have the actions of some psycho put them under a label or have that privilege taken from them.

Get these people in a room together. No media. No politicians. Leave that shit at the door and be transparent about how each individual personally feels about it minus the influence of outside sources that can start reactive talking points. Talk about personal experiences with guns, exposure to them. Why they personally are supportive or fearful of them. Man to man, woman to woman. Let them talk it out and have an impartial mediator there to control the conversation and emotional levels of the people present.

As someone from a country where gun control has fucked the population over, the existence of people still defending it defies my understanding of stupidity as a concept. It takes special brain processing power to think that laws stop lawbreaking people, and to then propose it IRL with a straight face and say that it's for the population's safety is an insult to the people's intelligence.

The problem is the years of gun hate that has been perpetuated by politicians. It's also easy to hate guns when a loved one got killed by one. Being emotional makes us act irrationally, but it's also something that makes us human.

As the other GAGers say. There is no way of telling how many times a criminal was deterred from committing a serious crime. When there was a possibility of a good person carrying a gun.

Laws don’t stop the criminals. Schools are “No Gun Zones “ in my state. And thankfully everyone seems to be abiding by the law.
