Check out the story of the poor, sweet-face, innocent girl who's life is now tragically altered because of those dogs. I've linked it under the picture.Story's here

Actually no, their name comes from two "sports" they were used for in Britain during the 1800s, namely bull-baiting (which was outlawed in 1835 because it was considered cruel to the bulls) and then "ratting," which was basically having two (or more) dogs compete to see how many rats trapped in a pit they could kill within a certain timeframe. When actual dogfighting became in demand, they were crossbred with terriers (becoming Pitbull Terriers) which was a very heavily scrutinized breeding and training regimen that went to extreme lengths to PREVENT those dogs from being violent towards humans so that owners, gamblers and vets could tend to them safely. They were brought over to the US shortly before the civil war and were used mainly as herding and ratting dogs on farms, and were again noted for docility towards humans which is where the "nurse dog" claim originates as well. During both World Wars, the Pitbull became a prominent symbol of American propaganda. The pitbull didn't have a reputation as a dogfighting breed in the US until well after dogfighting had been made a felony in all 50 states. You can actually credit it almost entirely to a TIME magazine hit piece from 1987 identifying them as dogs for low class thugs and criminals, and then more prominently for younger people alive today, Michael Vick's felony charges for breeding pitbulls as fighting dogs in 2007.
So you can have your opinion on the matter, but you're objectively wrong.
No ma’am they weren’t bred to fight in pits.
That’s how some dummies raise them and train them.
I raise pits but that’s not even their true name. Stafford Shire Terriers we’re bred to nanny children. They are incredibly loyal. Will die for their babies without a second thought.
People chain them up and they teach them to attack other animals. You might go nuts to if someone chained you up for life too.
It’s very easy to teach them to attack , because the dog is very protective and loyal if they don’t know you then they think you can be a threat to their people.

You can lay that blame at the door of dumb humans.
This has nothing to do with this but
earlier I saw our neighborhood cat who often hangs out in our yard and he was trying to itch his back but he couldn’t get it, so I itch the spot for him and as soon as I’m done itching and doing what he wanted me to do, this rat bastard grabs my arm with both of his arms and scratches it while also biting at my arm. I pulled away before any damage was done luckily, and I only got a small scratch.
Kind of? I really liked the pitbull of a friend. He would just cuddle up with you. He would be quiet. You could have it sit and lay down and just be relaxed. It never caused trouble, it never acted agressive. But they are powerful animals. But you have to show it who's boss. Dogs need a leader.

I think it is the owners that train these dogs that are to blame. However, I used to run past somebody's house in the morning that owned a pit bull. The dog used to bark like crazy when I ran by. He was tied up to the side of the house.
One morning he tore the piece of trim off the side of the house and started chasing me down the street dragging the piece of trim with him. There were a couple of cars driving down the street and I was able to keep them in between me and the dog until I got away.
No , Pit bulls are not inherently dangerous, while they were bred to pit fight, it comes down to their training and socialisation, it they have not been brought up in a social environment and properly house trained then that is where there is a problem they dogs that are used for fighting are not brought up in a social environment they are in individual cages where they cannot see each other or chained to individual dog houses and are not house trained at all. The aggression of these dogs can be firmly placed at the feet of the owners who have not trained them properly or walked the a reasonable distance to burn off their energy.
I have a different POV on them as I've worked with them and used them as cattle dogs and by the end of the day they have little energy left, they were not bred as cattle dog but with training can do the job as well as those that were.
Why the Hell did a young girl agree to take care of such dogs? I wouldn't even agree to that and I grew up around dogs my entire life, including a Rottweiler. And those owners are the main part of the problem... clearly shouldn't have dogs like that if they need a sign that says "crazy dogs". Many owners are complete morons.
Most animals are inherently dangerous, whether they actually grow up to do harm or into that path or later is another story.
There is people who have slept with a lion cuddling them, same for snakes, same for other animals that people tend to think are more dangerous than just a dog.
So yes? But don't really see your point since it's like Russian roulette with any animal it's what makes them animal even humans are just russian roulette there is a reason we have prisons lol.
I wouldn't say inherently dangerous for that race... but clear is, the trimmed / badly educated / edgy specimen do more damage, if they flip and attack. It's a similar story with Germany's number one dog, the shepherd. Other races, like terriers, have inherently more aggression, but do less damage due to their smaller sizes.
Generally, I would never leave a child alone with a big dog or a dog of potentially aggressive nature. Better save than sorry.
ABSOLUTELY NOT.
as a Pitbull owner, they are the sweetest most loving dogs. My dog loves other people and loves other dogs. It's a stigma that they will likely never shake due to the type of people who typically raise them.
There have also been several studies on this matter that have indeed concluded that there is not distinction between Dog Breed and level of aggression.
You’re illiterate and clueless. Show me one such study which shows that. The only thing studies show is that pitbulls can be *even more* aggressive due to bad ownership. But they are inherently aggressive to a high degree regardless of the quality of ownership.
@OneChodeOnly01 I’ve get better things to do today than prove you wrong.
I’m sorry to hear about your experience.
It’s certain people that should be banned from owning and breeding dogs.
Poorly bred and raised/handled dogs of any breed can behave the same way.
(owner/trainer/handler of large working dog breeds since the 90’s)
There was one that was a puppy and it came after me and its disposition was not nice and the guy grabbed it back on its leash, I know a guy who used to come to our house where me and my cousin lived and he kept his Pitbull in another room cause I
was scared of it my stomach would be sick then one time I ended up in
Hospital twice in two months with bowel obstruction then another time
colitis of the bowel, sorry I blamed my nerves on this happening to me.
I agree with you. Those dogs should be handled only by trained and certified professionals; they are not meant to be pets for ordinary persons and certainly not for novices or first time dog owners. They have been banned or heavily regulated in several countries---including my own---for a reason. The girl you speak of is just another of the sad statistics proving the truthfulness of what I just said.
Yes, those dogs need to be living in the wilderness since they really like to 'hunt'. Let's see how well do they 'hunt' a Tiger.
Those dogs can really help in the problem of a lack of prey for the apex predators. Just make sure they don't have any diseases they can spread to the apex predators and then just move them into their territory.
These dogs have the record for the most attacks on humans. These dogs have instincts of aggression and they can snap at any moment. For the people in here saying if they're trained properly, leave your child in a room with a pitbull and lets see how confident you are that your training is going to work. Out of all the dogs i could trust leaving in a room with a kid a small dog, the pitbull is the one i trust the least. And if you're offended pitbull lovers, i don't really give a shit
THANK.
YOU.
No, I think big dogs just aren't train properly and I think with love, care and affection. These big dogs can be awesome pets. Human beings can be considered inherently dangerous to but its not like we can't restrain ourselves with good training and mental habits.
No, and anyone who does is a buffoon. Pitbulls are favored for their ability to be guard dogs. Going by this logic, all muscular/agile dog breeds are inherently dangerous.
Thusly, anyone who thinks this must also apply this to..
German Shepherd
Rottweiler
Doberman
Mastiff
Boxer
et al
They're a breed that should be allowed to go extinct. Some argue the aggressiveness is being bred out but end of the day there's plenty of friendly breeds already.
Wholeheartedly agree
That’s true of any dog breed… raise the dog right and they’re the most loving loyal dogs you’ll ever own. I have three of them that would risk their lives for me and my kids 🤷♀️
We can’t trust all people to raise their dog right. I say ban dogs at least the larger dangerous ones
@Mustardy_awake good for you lmfao
…. Actually pit bulls were known as nanny dogs because they were so good with children….. any dog is inherently dangerous, just like any human, or any other animals is. You wanna demonize an aggressive breed…. Fuck chihuahuas
Nope. They're sweet as long as you train them properly. However, that's not often the case. I had a pit bull, and she was the most adorable puppy I've had in my entire life. Great for emotional support.
Pit bulls should be given the necessary training and ordinary people should be banned from owning these dogs. Pit bull owners cannot take care of their dogs, and their aggressive dogs cause many injuries or even deaths.
Very sad story! And very irresponsible of the owners to leave the dogs loose when they’d told the girl that they would be crated. 🤦♀️
My stance on Pitbulls and Rottweilers is the good animals are the exception, not the rule. I think they are foul foul creatures.
Recently a four year old in my country was mauled to death at his grandmother's home by a Rottweiler. The dog belonged to the woman's son and the little boy had gone to play with it, as he had been accustomed to doing with other dogs.
@Dchrls78104 Sounds about right... I have heard a lot of those stories.
