Why do you not have a profile picture showing your face?

i once had an account with a profile picture showing my own face but I received some perverted an insulting messages about my looks.

so I decided to delete that account and create a new one and to never use a profile picture showing my face again on this website

I did have a profile picture on here for a good few years back in the day, and to be honest, I don't think I've changed much, except looking perhaps more handsome ;)

But yes, it's because anonymous people usually say something like you're ugly. I mean, I don't come onto some bullshit website to get insulted by a bunch of half-wits who probably look like hobgoblins themselves. The perusal of such a website should be a sanctuary from the harsh reality of the world, not a place where people can gleefully abuse you from behind a keyboard.

There are also wider questions about privacy and security, especially coming from such websites. Most people can't accept contrary opinions that contravene their righteous outlook, or are quick to jealousy or hot temper, and want to do all they can to attack you or put you down, using any information they can get of you to fulfill this end. It's a shame we can't put profile pictures on for reasons like this, since it would make it a lot more personal. Overall, it's far too negative of an experience though.

I was playing mass effect 2 at the time (I'm still playing the fuck out of mass effect 2 and 3 all the time.) This geth robot "Legion" was my favorite character. He had the eternal question "Does this unit have a soul?"

These are hard wired, logical, robots using concensus algorithms to understand the greater world around them with flashlight heads and the first question they ask is "does this unit have a soul?" it hit home and my avatar will never change.

Privacy. I ain’t no celebrity so that I can showcase my life and persona online and for the world to see. I don’t intend to be one either. I work a normal job like majority of people, I have to go out there and slave away.
If I were to for example; have a YouTube channel and show my face and my have my face in the thumbnail, and then come back to work my slaving job… who knows what type of bosses or coworkers can find my stuff!

I used to have them under my other account. But then people started taking them and making questions for people to make fun of my appearance and making fake accounts with them. So I said if I ever did come back, I wouldn't do a real pic of myself. I did have a cartoon version of myself up for a bit.

I have my pic up from time to time. I just figure people get tired of my mug shot so I like changing out my profile pic now and then. I don't know what you look like for guys to make those kinds of comments, but I have never received any negative comments worth mentioning myself.

I'm not completely against it. However, I recognize that we humans will always treat each other differently based on our appearance.

I'm not hideous. My face is apparently around the normie tier level. But I still don't like the idea of being treated differently because of the way I look. Especially on a site where my primary focus is discussion.

@northernlights25 Yes, your profile pics are Downloadable on GaG. How do you think they get here? But you are right that people can also steal them and use them elsewhere. That's why it is good to use older pics.

Uploadable yes. But not downloadable as far as I have seen. Even so it's not like it's a nude. We have our faces on fb, insta, tik tok, twitter etc. So what's the difference.
