Why do some people on the Internet use just a blank profile pic?

I don't know, it always makes me laugh. I'm not saying a person has to use a picture, it's just funny the way some people don't want to, or will use the generic pics like what GaG has. Like I have a co-worker who has a blank pic on his profile for the company messaging platform we use, and when I teased him about it he said "What do I need to use a picture for?" It just made me laugh.

For anyone else out there, why do you NOT use any picture for your avatar on an app/website?

Firstly, people do not understand, but this is a FORUM based site, it's a discussion site, not a dating, pick-up or hook-up site. The profile and little pic is just to give an idea of who you are talking to. Not to put an album of pics like Ashley Madison to show your stuff for dating or hookup. That said, I don't know, why but people are very rude and abusive here, very abusive. The setup and moderators are made for a forum and not a social networking site, so they are totally inadequate in administering the site. The atmosphere is down right toxic with trolling rampant. It's just a matter on time till something happens or someone gets hurt. The abuse I have witnessed is just unbearable.
I did not join this site but stumbled on it on Google Academia, I thought it was a real research institution, while doing my work and I wrote a comment I thought I was telling a doctor or researcher. When I realized my mistake I tried to look for an admin or Mod on the site but could find any, there is no official admin icon anywhere on the page. That's how I came here. I put my kiddie pic thinking people would see the pic and be less rude to me. It did not work even with women. Then I thought may be if I put a pic of me during the lockdown when I grew my hair thinking it may at least scare the women into being less rude, but even that made no difference. That was my reason for putting picks, and both failed. Fuck, apart from a few I would be scared to sit across a table or go even for a walk with the women over here, it's like without warning they may jump at you and bite you on your throat and just not leave their clench. Many people here boarder on the psychotic. What are your thoughts.

So in some ways GaG has gotten better and in other ways worse. Years ago I think it was a lot worse than this, but not sure. Moderator corruption I don't think has changed for the better, maybe worse since so many females are desperate to become mods because they know the site has a high male population, and they want to have power to suppress or abuse male users.

But in general it's not much different from other sites/apps in the sense that most people don't really care to say anything worthwhile, they just want to be the most sarcastic or look for any reason to be disrespectful to others - which they are proud of.

I agree with a lot you say, only on most sites I moderators will at once throw you out if you are rude or obnoxious, here the Mods are pretty rude themselves, man, even the bot messages are rude, (or may be their command of language skills is poor.). Take reddit for example which probably is the biggest discussion based outfit and the standard bearer, they would not allow half the things that go on here. Anyway, since you have been here since long and say things are better now , we can hope they improve further.

Mods are rude for sure. Hell, I can even tell you a thing or two about some of them, but not out in the open. I tried Reddit before but I never could seem to get into it. Quora is a little easier to digest, and even their populus is overflowing with mentally unstable folks who post crazy whack questions and believe they're being targetted by the gov.

Haha yeah I hate when people dont have a profile pic. Takes like 10 seconds to pull a random pic from Google to use for a profile so unless someone is old and not tech savvy enough to do that then I have no idea why they leave it blank

I'm not putting personal pics online and it's not worth my time to choose a commercially available avatar that means little to me.

I consider my username and the content of my postings to reveal who I am at any given moment.

One never knows, though, when I may post an originally created avatar. I have something in the works.

Until then, I'm using a stock G@G avatar.
