The top 1000 nuclear targets in the USA would not directly impact me or put me in the project path of nuclear fallout. The closest target might create a pressure wave dealing light blast damage maybe 10-15 miles from my home. Thermal radiation might be out 20 miles. There is no real threat of EMP directly impacting me. I have farm land, I grow food, I have multiple artesian wells that produce thousands of gallons of water a day from deep aquifers, I have 14K+ watts of solar electric generation. I'm not really too concerned. Nuclear war would obviously be bad for the world, but I'd weather it fine. That said, while Hillary and the Democrats want to start a war, and the entire uranium one scandal indicates they would create a false flag and detonate a nuke in one of our own cities to trigger a war, I have faith the it will not happen based on what I know is happening. I'm sure the media is having a field day spewing fear porn propaganda to scare all the Democrats into surrendering their freedoms though.
I am just blown away that this administration is desperate enough to now foment a war with the second largest nuclear super power in the world. I hate to tell you but no one is prepared for a nuclear war. many scientist have crunched the numbers and even a limited less than 1% of Russia and USA using its nuclear arsenal would be absolutely devastating to the planet. and that is the absolute best case scenario. a full exchange would literally leave this plant uninhabitable and is the far more likely option that would be leveraged. The bombs we dropped on Japan were 15 and 20 kilotons, baby bombs compared to what the US and russia field today with the average yield for an American ICBM carrying 20 warheads that can interdependently target 20 different targets and each warhead yielding 250kilotons now imagine 10s of thousands of these raining down on the US and russia and china and the UK... its gonna fuck your day up.

nowhere. it will literally be an extinction level event on the level of the asteroid that killed the dinosaurs. except that the asteroid that killed the dinosaurs didn't contaminate everything with nuclear fall out for 1000s of years. so you might live in a fall out shelter for a couple of years and even if you came out would would likely starve to death in a few years or develop cancer from all the radiation you would be breathing and ingesting. the only thing that can be done is to preemptively protest the warmongers in all our governments to not start another unnecessary and existentially dangerous to all life on this planet war.
If the USA assembled a team to turn off nuclear warheads in those countries to prevent this from happening, would you volunteer to help?

To add to all the problems, a nuclear war would also likely include a biological one as well. This means those refugee columns may have various plagues (bubonic, pneumonic, Marburg etc).

Okay, look, first of all you cannot possibly know that "it's no secret how this war will be fought". Why are people automatically assuming that other nations will be involved even IF Vlad Putin gives the go-ahead to invade?
There has been far too much scare-mongering in the media, more than usual over the last two years. First it was the bushfires in Australia, California and Brazil, then the commie-virus, then Taiwan, and now this.
Anyway, if a war does break out and it ends up engulfing the entire globe, at least the aliens that we've been told by the Pentagon are visiting us will be entertained. I wonder if they have an alien equivalent to popcorn. :)

If you don't have a nuclear bunker with filters for air decontamination, water and food for at least one year, it will be difficult to survive the fallout, even if you will survive nuclear attack.
In nuclear war, most people won't die due heat and pressure or radiation caused by thermonuclear weapon directly but due cancer months to years after 20000 nuclear warhead contaminate with isotopes soil, water and air over months.
The longer time you aren't exposed to those isotopes the more of them decay, the better is your chance to survive.

Russia just wants the US (NATO) to stay out of Countries bordering Russia, as they feel threatened and boxed in.
The US wasn't too keen on the Soviet Union having a missile base in Cuba in the 1960's, so they should understand its a fair request.
Maybe the US should start treating Russia as a partner, rather than always the enemy.
To prepare for an apocalypse, you have to be prepared for both the long term and short term.
Long Term:
You need to think about your needs and how you can fill 100% of them on your own (or with members of your house).
Short Term:
Then you need supplies to last you until your long term methods meet those needs.
How will you make food?
How will you make medicine?
How will you be happy?
Even most preppers would fail if the bombs dropped. If you can't do everything, you might as well do nothing right?
Technological advances and precision weaponry in modern warfare has made nuclear weaponry unnecessary. Those countries that have them keep them as deterrents. No country wants to let the nuclear genie out of the bottle. Besides, it makes no sense for any country to destroy and contaminate anywhere it wants to occupy.

I could envisage nukes being used if either Russia or rhe USA was being threatened on their home ground but not over the Ukraine. If nuclear war starts its more likely to be a tactical one to begin with rather than one big launch.
I'm not near anything worth bombing but could be affected by fall out so I'll be hoping the prevailing westerly winds hold out

The U. S. is just pretending to care about Ukraine. If the U. S. really wanted to protect the Ukraine then it would have defense pact with them that says we will attack anyone who attacks them and/or we would put a few thousand U. S. combat troops in there.

I doubt there will be a war. The USA certainly wants Russia to attack. Vlad has been toying with the Biden administration on this. My guess is Democrats want their to be a war, so that they can get involved and then invoke special rules that affects how we vote. These people are always working an angle.
