A lot of people are thinking the use of one "nuke" means the end of the planet. That I dont' see as true. play the scenarios in your head... if Putin blows up Kherson, does the rest of the world go to defcon 5 and obliterate the planet? The answer is no...
The planet obliteration scenario is "mistaking" a launch and countering, which... who knows how probable that is. There better be a lot of kill switches for that... we've already got missiles flying over Japan and we aren't countering.

I know you do, I've been around "the block" a few times. There is nothing new here, been going on for long time. Evil, sadness, depression, meloncholy... feels good. You hit on one of my inspiring moments in life... why live? I was standing before a strong young man 30 years ago, he was in his 20's. He told me... he'd reached all his goals..#1 weight lifter, blah blah... and he had nothign else to live for. He didn't have his parents, not sure why. I was standing there after just very ill and needed heart surgery that month... and a relative had died from that years before. I decided I wanted to live and got the surgery, so I could live. That man committed suicide not long after
If you want life, it is there, but you have to choose it, and accept the change with courage... then you grow. I've always found it amazing how some people whose bodies are healthy, will kill their bodies. Then there are those who don't get a chance because their bodies fail them, and they'd give anything to live.

I lived through the effects of The Chernobyl disaster 26 April 1986 on the UK. Despite being over 1,600 miles apart, the United Kingdom felt the effects of Chernobyl’s radioactive cloud, so I've added 180 days worth of Iodine tablets to my stocks 'just in case', though I doubt that they'll be needed as if Putin decided to use nuclear weapons they will be small air burst with minimal fallout in comparison to the two WW2 bombs or the pacific island tests. the biggest effect will be the EMP pulse that will render unshielded electronics and power grids useless across Europe.

Putin made it clear that he was threatening Ukraine, not just NATO, in his 30 September speech about the Ukraine war: ‘The United States is the only country in the world that has used nuclear weapons twice, destroying the cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in Japan. And they created a precedent.’

The precedent is that it is morally and legally acceptable to win a war, and avoid loss of life among your own troops, by dropping low-yield nuclear weapons on two enemy cities, killing perhaps 200,000 people, even if the enemy you attack has no nuclear weapons of their own.

What else can you do with iodine tablets... purify water? sounds wise to stock up... have to learn to live without electricity for a while... and that be hard.

If I had to guess, he will use them if war doesn't go his way... suck Ukraine troops into an area, and blow them up... on "his land". creates a "buffer" zone and freezes everyone from doing anything more aggressive.. just a war of words... then the conflict goes to new NATO countries. Iodine tablets block your bodies uptake of radioactive iodine. only really needed if there are ground/ water level bursts. I would not try using iodine tablets from your local pharmacy for water purification, There are iodine water purification tables available but Chlorine based ones are more available

No one is prepared for a nuclear war. It was projected by Norad and nato in the 90s that even a limited use of nuclear weapons. A few hundred nukes would radically change our climate and cause 2-3... billion people to starve to death in a year or two even in countries were a a bomb did not fall. Which a war between russia and any other Nuclear super power would not be a limited it would probably be all out. The first attack would likely come in the form of a EMP. 1 Weapon of roughly 10 kilotons ( Half the size of the bombs we dropped on Japan) detonated 30,000 feet above Cananda would literally knock the whole of Canada America and Mexico back to the stone age. Cell phones cars computers power grids nothing would work... ever again. if they are really insidious the one to start the attack would wait until winter to maximize casualties via freezing to death. You would also do it at night. The reason being any one standing outside and with in 10 miles of a Nuclear explosion would be permanently blinded by the flash. Since most of the people outside at night are likely to be youth. you could in a single attack kill or permanently disable 90% of your enemies fighting population... With in weeks any one dependent on any kind of medication like insulin or thyroid medication would be dead. and with in months most people would likely be suffering acute radiation sickness or poisoning and with in a few year most people would be developing some kind of cancer. It is an extinction level event. We are dangerously close to this happening.

This is why I enjoy the fact that I live in an area that is big on gun control. Because I'm not🤣🤣🤣. During the pandemic remember when everyone was hoarding toilet paper, I wasn't. And my neighbor remarked one day during a neighborhood get together. They were talking about how stocked up on toilet paper they were. And one asked me how I was doing in that dept. And I said. I got a couple days supply of it. And one said shocked "doesn't that worry you". And I said no, because I'm very well armed and stocked with ammo. I don't worry about what I can't control. I try to make sure when I tell a close friend or a relative bye that if I never see them again I am at peace. I have zero desire to live in a post-apocalyptic world. I live a few minutes from the Norfolk Naval Base and a short distance from the HQ of the USAF Air Combat Command at Langley AFB. LAFB is almost equidistant between me and the US Navy weapons station at Yorktown Va. In the event of a nuclear exchange, I might see the flash for a split second. My plan? To make sure I am as close as possible to that first explosion!

I am going to say the OPs update is only partially correct. A single bomb might be all, but you can't say that for absolute certainty. First of all the Earth has global wind patterns that will carry that radioactivity over hundreds if not thousands of miles. The half-life of that crap is in the hundreds of years. Just this radioactivity is a violation of agreements. Then let's also take into account mutual defense pacts. Once a tactical nuke goes off it will take almost superhuman restraint to limit it to just that one.

I'm always preparing for disasters of all kinds. The two most important things you can do is not live close to nuclear targets and mentally prepare for worst case scenarios but beyond that it helps to be less dependent on corporations/long distance supply chains. And to be able to provide all/most of the stuff to your own family that people often depend on government for.

If nuclear weapons actually get used none of that will matter anyway. Because if the blasts from the warheads don’t kill you the radiation will. People, plants, food, water, animals even the air and soil will be radioactive.

And even if you are in area that isn’t irradiated and not with range of the warheads blasts, radioactive material can be carried from one place to another via wind.

So I’m sorry to say your gonna die no matter what you do it’s just a matter of when. Unless your in some sort of fall out bunker or mountain fall out shelter which your not going to be.

Couple issues with that.

1# The bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki are no where near as powerful as modern day nuclear warheads.

The bombs dropped on Japan were about 15 kilotons.

Modern day nukes are around 1.2 megatons which is around 60 times more powerful then WWII era nukes.

2# There’s a massive difference between 2 nuclear bombs being dropped and thousands of nuclear warheads being launched.

The US alone has a nuclear stockpile of 3,750 warheads.

If nuclear war happened every country in the world with nukes would be Launching them your talking over 10,000 warheads.

yes the bombs are much larger, but one bomb in Kherson, as example, isn't going to wipe out people in Romania, but they may be displaced. If such bomb goes off, there will be denial and finger pointing, not a full scale immediate launch that wipes out the world.

No point. As the crow flies I live less than 15 miles from Seal Beach Naval Weapons Station.. Although they allegedly have no nuclear weapons there, I doubt the Russians and Chinese believe that so it would be a major target. Probably get a lethal dose of radiation within a few minutes at most.

Let me just add the nukes we have are 1000x more powerful then the one that was dropped in ww2 so we really don’t know if underground bunkers are going to be effective, if so how far deep. Radiation from a nuclear war is short-lived. If you can be underground and protected from fallout for 2 weeks, you will not die from radiation. There may be a nuclear winter and, for a year or more, there may be no vegetation or animals to eat. However, since most people will be dead, you may find plenty of canned food.

Russia may use tactical nukes in Ukraine if they are losing, a bad move because they would be shitting in their own backyard.

If full nuclear war comes the best you can hope for is a quick death. Surviving the explosions, nuclear fallout, radiation, nuclear winter, starvation and the bit where you die from the burns you got, radiation sickness or the cancerous tumour you get is not a good prospect. Also depending the radiation may make you both sterile and impotent. I remember seeing that about a place in Kazakhstan where they tested nukes, all the young men in one small town were killing themselves because they were made infertile and impotent by the radiation.
