Kievan RUSS. History is weird... Vikings were involved, yeah, vikings.
Germans settled in norway, then conquered ukraine and eventually conquered what's today russia. Demographically replaced the local slavs with russian slaves during the USSR, and then the russian slavs separated from them. And now they are essentially invading a bunch of close relatives that hate them.
I did not realize two things before the invasion. 1. It is the largest country in Europe 2. Chernobyl is in Ukraine, I thought it was just on the other side of the boarder.
Your first study is from 1984 way too outdated. As for second study it’s more believable but keep in mind that GaG is not made up of just Americans, people could be lying, and internet users are different from average street people.
I can't wrap my head around how hard this is to find. If you understand that Ukraine borders Russia and know where Russia is, your chances of being correct will be much higher.
Maybe it would help your question if you posted a map where there countries aren´t named on to produce a probably more accurate result because now people can click I knew while looking on your map.
@loves2learn So far nothing changed that much, except we had 50 000 of refugees from Ukraine yesterday. And we're scared that we would be next, after Ukraine.

Well, if you have been in Ukraine, you kind of know where it is.
Being big means little.
Being " great" means little, too.
Ukraine was known to me; but with least effect on my own life.
I think you assume people to be more ignorant of geography than they really are.

My job requires me to travel a lot. I've been to Ukraine a few times.
Being a cold war kid, the Iron Curtain was well known!

The Soviet Union made the countries a huge communist clusterfuck

I knew everything you asked and like you I’m stunned so many people claim to know the answers to these questions.
Erm yeah, you would have to be a bit stupid, ignorant etc not to know where something that has featured in history actually is.
Like WW2, Chernobyl, Chicken Kiev even.
that and Russian Revolution, all the stuff before then.
In February and March 2014, Russia invaded and subsequently annexed the Crimean Peninsula from Ukraine.
I even remember memes with the Olympic circles becoming tank trends because Russia invaded just after the 2014 Olympic games.
That they fucking hosted.

I did because I've always loved looking at maps, and I'm not from the US.

I knew about it because many Indians go there for medical education.
That's the only good thing about this war. Americans will finaly learn where Ukraine is on the map.
How is Poland doing. I saw a lot of Ukrainians at the border.

@Cubus sounds about right ❤️
@loves2learn Right that we are scared, or right that we have a lot of refugees?
I live in the UK so it less than 1000 miles away and loads of them live here in the uk
I knew about where it was and work with a guy that is from there
The problem was never where Ukraine was, but why it's important.
Yes I knew where the Ukraine was before this conflict broke out, I've worked there.
