It’s like buying a ticket to a concert and then boycotting it by not going. Also very few vodkas are imported to the USA.

Wrong! Business works very differently than how you as a consumer sees thing. In the non alcoholic world.. if a business buys something wholesale the wholesale price is often 50% or less than the price the business sells it to the public at. In the beer & wine business the markup is way more. The bar buys something for $5 and sells it for $25 (5x increase). So #1, what the guy is pouring out is worth way less to him than it would be to you if you bought it as a consumer. Also keep in mind that the business didn't have to pay taxes on that stuff it hasn't yet sold to the public. The producer/distributor of the booze still made money for delivering it to the bar or restaurant tho.

#2 In the U. S. at least, business marketing is tax deductible. If a business spends $100 on marketing, they can use that to offset taxes owed... so as long as they owed the government $100 in taxes they can wave a magic wand, claim the deduction and now they owe zero. So actually as long as the wholesale value of the booze poured out is less than the total taxes the business would owe the feds, it's FREE advertising spending.

Now I'm not being cynical and saying that the people pouring it out don't believe in the cause they say they do. What I'm saying is that it isn't costing them anything. It may even increase their profits when like minded people decide to visit that establishment just because of the protest.

Well first of all, pretty much all the "Russian" vodka brands are made outside of Russia and have owners who are not Russian. Secondly, its not really stupid either. This is a form of support, the act of pouring it out is symbolic rather than actually attempting to deny the producer of the Vodka the sale of a single bottle.

As such, its entirely fine for you to display your support by pouring out vodka. Complaining about it on the internet however just goes to show that you did not really think this through.

Bbbut as a rule of thumb don't buy or mention name branded products to symbolize the protest. Ice bucket worked because it was a human right resource and frozen human rights resource to work. Not all vodka is Russian. I think one is even Ukrainian. Plus you already bought it; so they already have your money. The thing to do is look at the bottle and see where it was brewed. If it is in Russia then just don't buy anymore of that brand. Or is that being too logical? Of course vodka isn't what keeps the Russian government afloat. 70% of their economy is based on selling their oil. So if we wanted to hurt Putin we'd open up Keystone and go back to being a net exporter of oil. Cheap oil hurts Russia.
