Volodymyr Zelensky says he feels betrayed by western countries. Thoughts?

Volodymyr Zelensky has blamed the western countries for not helping Ukraine to fight back against Russia.

What do y’all think of this?

He says “While Russians are to blame for the killings, responsibility is shared by those who for 13 days in their western offices haven’t been able to approve an obviously necessary decision, who didn’t save our cities from these bombs and missiles – although they can”

He is wrong,
Had Ukraine been a member of NATO or the EU, there would have been a very different response from Europe.

However as Ukraine are not, and that makes the West an external party to this conflict and any direct moves could trigger a major war which could escalate into a World War very quickly.

I understand he wants help, however the West has sent Ukraine billions of dollars worth of weapons and supplies already to help them frustrate the Russians. And are working on strategic moves to end this invasion as soon as possible.

Why do you want them to be NATO member? Isn’t it selfish to make them a member of NATO? The only reason for that is to allow the US military to have access to the Russian border from there.

You are essentially just converting Ukraine to how you had Turkey during the Cold War. What if you just point a nuclear missile at Russia? Who would be responsible then?

I don't want Ukraine to be a NATO member, and I don't support NATO having bases near the Russian border. The US didn't accept the USSR having missiles in Cuba in the 1960's, and Russia should be afforded the same respect. I disagree with Ukrainian president over his complaints about the West not helping.

I do support Ukraine joining the European Union, they as an independent nation should have the right to vote for this if they wish for future economic prosperity. Russia fears that this will eventually lead to NATO moving to Ukraine.

I don't support Russian invasion of Ukraine, and despite Putins paranoia, I honestly don't think Europe had any future designs to hurt or attack Russia.

Exactly! I don’t think Russia can be blamed here. They can’t let US get to Ukraine. They have also stated clearly that if it is agreed that Ukraine will not become a NATO member, then Russia would leave Ukraine alone.

He can say what he wants, but without being part of NATO, they really aren't under any obligation to do anything, and his main request: additional Soviet era fighter aircraft aren't something you can just throw on a train and send even in the best of circumstances. Most of these in the NATO and EU arsenals have basically been grounded or barely maintained for the last 20-30 years. It would be very lucky if they could scrape together 20+ of them in anything resembling a timely fashion.

Also, the overwhelming majority of damage inflicted on the cities' populations by the Russians is being done by artillery, not aircraft. Aside from obvious problems with escalation, an NFZ would do almost nothing to address that issue, Zelenskyy (and the western politicians with two brain cells to rub together) knows this, and they are using civilian deaths as propaganda to his advantage.

That he's seriously beginning to annoy me. If he continue this ways no Western countries are going to help him, Ukraine is one of the poorest country in Europe, lots of war happening since 2014, they aren't in the UE neither in NATO, it been one weeks he's been guilt tripping the EU into accepting Ukraine immediately (while there's 5 countries that have been waiting a more than a decade to enter the UE), etc...

If he continue this ways he's going to get everyone against him nobody like whiny people who throw a tantrum when they don't get their ways. This just show he aren't a politician but en ex actor...

Did he miss the part where NATO rejected them for membership? I feel for the Ukrainians, and the man staying put and fighting alongside his people while Putin cowers in a bunker shows he's got cast-iron guts; hell, the fact that he's standing up to the Russian military alone means he's probably got the ghost of TR Roosevelt beaming down on him as his true successor (complete with an ethical awful decision, too!), but NATO isn't the "alliance for kicking Russia's ass", and assuming they would automatically come and save you when Putin got up to something is just idiotic. NATO didn't stop Putin in 2008, they didn't stop Putin in 2014, they didn't do squat when Beijing seized Hong Kong- what's it going to take for you to start building something yourself?

I get that he is upset about it and understandably so, however there are other things with this.

Is he mad we didn't offer to be the meat shield between them and Russia using foreign military as defense or is he more mad that they were rejected by NATO to join them and give them that leverage of protection from the get go?

There really isn't much that could be done without getting directly involved if the west intervened.

NATO countries are supplying Ukraine with weapons and other supplies. Poland will be supplying them with fighter jets. The US does not need to get sucked into another war. Give them aid and put sanctions on Russia but we should not send troop over there. It will get ugly really fast.

He's understandably frustrated. I don't take it personal. While I feel for Ukraine. In some ways I feel like we've already interfered too much already. I mean we gave them stinger missles. And if Russia wanted to they could decide we are at war with them just on that action alone.
