Yes. That's what Putin has been patiently trying to negotiate for 8 years. Russia didn't do a thing when NATO moved closer and closer to its borders. But Russia drew a red line at Ukraine.

The U. S. engineered the 2014 coup with the goal of seizing Russia's 235 year old naval base at Sevastopol, blocking the Black Sea, making Ukraine part of NATO, and building military bases on Russia's border. There's no way Russia could allow that. Would the U. S. allow Russian military bases on it's borders? Would the U. S. ever give up any of its naval bases? Remember the Cuban missile crisis?

Why is NATO still in existence? The Soviet Union is gone. Russia isn't the Soviet Union. Unlike the U. S., it hasn't behaved in an imperialistic manner. It doesn't want to annex Ukraine. It just wants a neutral buffer zone between its borders and NATO. Nobody with a brain thinks it plans to invade Europe. The idea is absurd.

And lets not forget that the new Ukrainian regime banned the Russian language and began a brutal military conquest of the eastern region where the people were aligned with Russia and there were many ethnic Russians. Russia came to their defense the way it defended Syria against U. S./western aggression.

I get why mainstream media consumers are upset. I just listened to NPR today and it was nonstop hand wringing about poor Ukrainians. Funny how it didn't say a thing about 14,000 Ukrainians being slaughtered over the past 8 years by their own government. Funny how it doesn't wring it's hands over Palestinians, Yemenis, or any other victims of brutal, sadistic aggression. That tells me that there is a propaganda campaign afoot in regards to Ukraine. Mainstream media is all telling the same official, shallow, one sided narrative to it's gullible, uneducated consumers.

The U. S. pushed Russia into this war. It has a history of doing that in other countries. It threatens other countries and instigates violence. Then, when those countries take defensive measures, the U. S. points at them in alarm and accuses them of aggression.

Does anyone think Ukraine is a democracy? How many people are aware the the U. S. engineered the 2014 coup? Is anyone aware of the actual Nazi military forces in Ukraine? I guess decades of Russophobia has turned people into Nazi lovers.

I'm anti-war. But the U. S. started this. It thought Russia would roll over. It refused to negotiate a peaceful solution. And the Ukrainian government didn't realize that it was being used a pawn. The U. S. doesn't give one fuck about the Ukrainian people. But it's crying crocodile tears over Russian aggression as a pretext to continue the effort to destroy Russia.

Yes. When push came to shove the US was never going to intervene militarily on behalf of Ukraine. I think that has been obvious ever since it started pushing NATO eastward. The right thing to do for the Ukrainian people was to take their geography into account and sign a neutrality agreement. Zelensky could not do this because the cash that underwrote his campaign came from NATO.

Putin annexed Crimea and destabilized eastern part of Ukraine 8 years ago. If you think Putin invaded Ukraine just because "Russia is concerned about NATO expansion" you're really naive. Ukraine is just too big to swallow it in one piece for Russia.
I assure you, if Baltic states like Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania weren't NATO members, Putin had invaded them already few years back.
Russia wants to expand to the west, because industry, infrastructure and money is there. Everything else is just cheap excuses for fools like "denazification"

It would not make a difference. The West have yanked him around by making him think they would join. They could have let them in to keep Russia from invading but were too small balled to go it. Afraid they would have fight Russia. Now If Russians were to go into Poland I really wonder if NATO would actually fight Russia.

it provides security for Europe and North America
and why would zelensky do that… Russia wouldve still invaded and it would be impossible for Ukraine to be apart of NATO

Yes. Russia warned him what they would do. Finland didn't join for this reason and has known peace since 1945 with Russia
