Well my side of the aisle has a lot of people saying capitalism itself is a sham and unsustainable, and needs to be "replaced" with socialism. Though the Democratic party itself hardly pushes for any of this.

The way I see it, capitalism is just a sociological force. Like splitting the atom. As long as it's channeled in the right way, it is a self-sustaining source of power. Left to its own devices, it is a limitless destructive force. Either way, it actively tries to grow.

Top-down policies require regular funding and maintenance. They actively try to dismantle themselves. That's why we need to make sure public services are selective and chosen by the people.

So I tend to agree with conservatives and libertarians in terms of "capitalism is good". But I'm not, like, worshipping like "capitalism is good everywhere." Unless you like weapons dealers starting civil wars to arm both sides.

I also tend to agree with them on the problems with political correctness. Certainly NOT with the idea of "banning and burning books because they teach racial history", which as I see it, is just more political-correctness.

But like, there's a lot of things I don't like about Bill Maher. But my favorite rants from him are when he rants about words being banned and everything being "problematic" and obsessing over "air-conditioning being sexist" or whatever thing BuzzFeed is harping on about to get views.

Like ffs, "Long time, no see" isn't making fun of natives speaking broken English. Like maybe it WAS at one point, but if you have to TELL people that's what it used to mean, then they obviously didn't mean it that way.

Or you will get tons of middle-class white people who lose their shit over a movie based on a Japanese story that doesn't have all Japanese characters, like Edge of Tomorrow, while the literal Japanese people and original Japanese writers don't give a shit or are even stoked to see their content spread elsewhere. I get that it's different for Japanese-Americans because they aren't a majority like in Japan. But like, maybe let them speak up about why, and don't barge your white ass in and assume what they're feeling. It just makes it look like THEY are being overdramatic.

Like, I could go over to, say, Mozambique, and buy authentic Mozambique formalwear and they will probably be glad to sell it, and glad to see someone of a different culture wearing it. But if I were to wear it on the plane ride home, I'd probably get my ass kicked once I arrived by people who aren't even Mozambique-American.

To expand my last point a bit more, I get why it is obnoxious at best when someone puts a feather in their head and starts walking goofy saying "LoOk At Me Im An InDiAn". And I get that it's dumb if a white guy wears dreads and gets compliments and a black guy wears dreads and is told to "make his hair less thuggish".

But like, maybe focus more on letting the black guy wear dreads and less on preventing the white guy from doing it. The best way for all of this to work out is if we make the styles normal for everyone.

Mozambique formalwear might not be the best example since looking it up, it appears most formalwear used over there is suits and ties. But like there's a lot of ethnic formalwear I would rather wear than the usual European-style blazer and tie. I would somewhat prefer to see something like the Arabian Thoub come to US business meetings than see the blazer and tie show up over there.

Since I am a member of neither I would have to post something right about both.

But we are talking about core values. . . before trumpism.

    I was basically a neo-con, when I was a Republican.

    1. I believed the same as President Bush. That the U. S. was supposed to lead a coalition of nations in the spreading of democracy. I just disagreed with using the military. That was just plain stupid. We were supposed to use the power of American culture and diplomacy.

    2. I always believed in strong communities and strong families. Even as I was divorced, I did everything I could to save my marriage and I still love my ex to this day. I really believe in classic gender roles and in a traditional family structure.

    3. 100% capitalistic. The federal government needs to stay out of private business affairs except for instances of rights and freedoms that are guaranteed by the Constitution.

    4. The more local the jurisdiction or government, the more power it should wield.

Those are just some of the classic conservative positions I agreed to. But those types of conservatives are few and far between nowadays.

    Nothing! It’s all a stage , it’s all a joke.
They’re all clowns 🤡. Even Trump ended up saying that we should all just get the “CURE”. I used to stick up for Trump until he did that shit. That’s how you know they’re all in on it.

Who KNOWS who’s actually in control. Maybe AI or Atrificial Intelligence or a Robot or the Devil is in control.
No human / person is in control.
Trump at least behaved like a LIVE A-HOLE HUMAN. Biden , Hillary and all of those behave like Robots. Not even kidding.
    Its all so sooo weird.

    WHO F”KING KNOWS….

No, It’s true, you can actually see with your eyes that Hillary and Biden and Obama behave unnaturally , unlike JERK TRUMP.
You just have to use your eyeballs and understand how body-language can works.

This is hard, because I agree with about 20% of what the Democrats do and about 0% of what the Republicans do nowadays. But thankfully "got right" is past-tense, and there's at least one absolutely shining example from the Republican party: Theodore Roosevelt.

Theodore Roosevelt's conservation efforts are some of the most important and impactful laws America has ever passed, and greatly benefited our country. We're still reaping the rewards of the various National Parks, National Monuments, game reserves, and National Forests he pushed for.

I'm an independent, so The CMS reduction of insulin costs for a small population of recipients was something the Republicans got right. It was better than nothing. but it was entirely over-exaggerated and made to sound like EVERYONE on insulin would pay only $35 a month from now on until forever. That was complete bullshit, but that's Trump for you.

Named "The Part D Senior Savings Model", it affected potentially 3.4 million eligible users on Medicare who use insulin. The plan began in Jan, 2021, so full data is not yet available. Over 1,750 Medicare Part D and Aadvantage Plans have applied to provide insulin through it. It's estimated that 58% of those eligible are or will be participating (1.97 million). Kaiser Family Foundation, a non-partisan health care group, estimates the average user will save about $120 per year over their current costs. That would be an overall savings of $236 million dollars for all recipients.

Every little bit helps, but it's not anywhere near the billions of dollars Trump and the Republicans claimed it would save. So an "A" for getting something done, and another "F" for lying about it.

Biden supporters! Are you happy with the economy right now? Please tell me one thing that this Democratic Party has gotten right! Yeah Trump might have some stupid shit and even I said dude chill out. But Biden has NO CLUE wtf he is saying. A lot of People that voted for Biden only did it out of spite because they didn’t like things Trump had said. What I really want to know is what you think is better now than when Trump was president? Because I can’t say anything is better! Everything is 1000 times worse!

On the right, castle doctrine and stand your ground laws. I shouldn't ever put my life at risk or have my options curtailed because some overly sensitive folks don't want people to protect themselves. Looking at you California, New York and Massachusetts.

On the left, environmental rights. This world is beautiful and we have royally fucked it up like we do everything else.

The Republican party has LONG forsaken their platform of 'the COMMON good'
and the oaths their Legislators have publicly sworn upon election.
Now, its 'ALL bout dah benjamins' and creating and shoring up a 'de facto' privileged gentry.

Shamelessly, week-upon-week I get telemarketers imploring me to donate NOT to some worthy cause but instead to 'fund' (aka BRIBE) sitting Politicians to 'vote favorably' to their alleged 'worthy cause'.

How is THAT not BUYING a Legislator's vote? Are WE the citizenry not ALREADY paying these Politician's salary and privileges to vote for OUR best interests?

Methinks I smells a rat... or, still worse, who's to say my 'gifted' money EVEN MAKES IT to that money-grubbing politician, and NOT to a wiley Telemarketer's "straw man" con? NO paper trail! ~

I don't fall into the mindset that side A is always right and side B always wrong. I choose one side because on balance I agree with certain policies that are more important to me than others. For example I lean left and agree with the notion of equality but I don't agree with wokism. I agree with environmental issues but I don't agree extra tax is the answer.

"If you are not a liberal at 25, you have no heart. If you are not a conservative at 35, you have no brain"

The implication is that both are very valid schools of thought, even when taken to extremes. Liberals care about people, and are always very much in favor of programs and laws to assist others. Conservatives want to do what's right for the greater good, even if some are hurt along the way.

(Obviously this is VERY VERY simplified and uses a lot of assumptions and stereotypes, but you get the point)

The US political system is a problem, because they give people only two options normally, which is
    1. Republican/Conservative/Right
    2. Democrat/progressive/Left/Liberal.

It forces people to be either left or right, with no option for Centerist/moderate party. Democrats used to be that Centerist party, but are now viewed as Liberal.

Very good question. The only thing I agree with on Democrats is that global warming is very real.

However their “Greta Thunberg approach” is down right asinine and counter productive. It’s pushing people in the wrong direction.

Almost everything else on the left has gone from bad to worse when it comes to being irrational. They used to have some good ideas I felt open to. But now it’s the party of AOC and the squad.

Your mistake is in thinking the two major parties are actually antagonistic towards each other; they're not, they're the two sides to the same problem. Elections are a fraud, because it doesn't matter which party wins, the result is always the same; the rich win, the poor lose.

Don't antagonise and threaten Russia by arming Ukraine, building up US forces on Russia's boarder, expand nato, sanction Russia, try to undermine the Russian economy and encourage Ukraine to join NATO knowing that the US will not back Ukraine if Russia invades Ukraine.

One specific policy decision did occur to me. I actually agree with them declining to have Poland ferry migs into Ramstein for delivery to Ukraine. We don't need planes taking off from a US airbase (likely fully armed and fueled) and then engaging the military of a country the US is not at war with. That would rightly be seen as an attack on the Russkie armed forces by the US. There's no reason Ukrainian pilots cannot pick the planes up in Poland and ferry them back themselves.

@Kenzy009 Excuse you? 22 states LEGALLY changed mail-in voting laws to allow more mail-in ballots. Perhaps you forget, but it was peak Covid time. Republicans tried to sue many states, claiming they acted illegally, but every case was dismissed. EVERY CASE, and no votes were overturned.

Meanwhile, your Republican friends who should rightfully be called "The Gerrymandering Party", got busy enacting more restrictive laws for the next election, and attempting to re-district key areas that they lost.

You can deny this all you want, but the truth is -------------

ALL of this is happening for one reason only - the Republicans lost the Presidency and full control of Congress!!! Had Trump won, and had they retained control, the ONLY thing you would be hearing from the "right" is "what a shining example of Democracy we have here in the United States of America! The people have spoken! We have a mandate"!!! Ad nauseum. THAT is 100% true.

@loveslongnails Which it's funny they blasted "mandate" ad nauseum already. Trump has never had popular mandate. In fact, Republicans haven't had popular mandate on a first term since Bush Sr. The only time they've had popular mandate since Reagan was Bush Jr's second term. 4 years of popular mandate out of 30.

@OpenClose True. What's also "funny", as in funny pathetic, was the first Bush election. Talk about stolen? That was a clear, evidential case of a mechanic malfunction. The only legitimate way to resolve it was to re-vote. Sure, it would have been a pain in the ass, but it was the only fair way to do it. However, at that time in history, election "day" was sacred and the press and politicians were screaming "we have to know NOW who the next President will be!" Well, bullshit to that. What had to be done was doing it right.

You had the heavily Democratic vote that was going to decide the election in Florida, and the country. Brother Jeb was Governor, the Election Commissioner was Republican. She should have authorized a re-vote. Instead, the courts ruled to THROW OUT all of those votes and do nothing, which gave Bush the win. Hence, it was the first time in US history that the Judicial Branch of government appointed a President, by completely disenfranchising thousands of citizens votes.

I think that was equally as bad as Jan. 6th and the constant Big Lie, both low points in our history now, though the Bush steal is never mentioned anymore. So you see, actual physical evidence can be ignored too, if you have the right party in control and the right judges in place.

I think it's obvious he meant an organization against voter fraud, unless you're a Trumpanzee grasping at straws.

Ever notice how Republicans are constantly mocking Democrats for being dumb, stupid, disorganized and completely incompetent no matter what they do? This is a constant Repub theme. YET, when it comes the election, all of a sudden, they were capable of pulling off the most "brilliantly executed widespread voter fraud scheme that encompassed all the key positions in all the swing states"!!! It ran so deep it encompassed mail carriers, supervisors, ballot counters, election officials, State representatives and even Governors!! Those completely INCOMPETENT Dems somehow managed the biggest election swindle in the history of elections - hell, in the history of swindles!!

Yeah - that's what happened. LOL

Last thing Democrats got mostly right was the 1962 Cuban missile crisis, and that was mostly because of JFK.

Republicans got it mostly right to take a chance on Trump. He is far from perfect, but so much better than Bush Republicans.

Clinically speaking, do you think that helping people to "realize" their delusions is a good strategy that is likely to be helpful, and if you do, why do think that? Also - do you think making sure they really ARE delusional first is a good idea? Lastly, do you even know what a delusion really is other than a catchy term?

      Reply
    • crmoore

Yes, if someone is delusional and they are never aware of their delusion, it won't change, and helping somebody out of their delusion is clearly helpful.

And if I was taking this entirely seriously, yes, making sure they're genuinely delusional would be a good idea. But either 1. you're being exaggeratory and you genuinely don't believe Republicans are white supremacist, then you're not speaking literally and therefore it's in accordance if I, too, wasn't speaking literally about your delusion. Or 2. you actually do think Republicans are white supremacists and you literally are delusional. So all my bases are covered, here.

And yes, I do know what is is. Here's the definition that does apply here, whether figuratively or literally (as described in my second paragraph): psychology : a persistent false psychotic belief regarding the self or persons or objects outside the self that is maintained despite indisputable evidence to the contrary

Your quotation of some book somewhere does not obviate the fact that you clearly personally have absolutely no idea what a delusion is nor do you have any idea how to assess whether somebody is delusional. I do, so stop fucking around. The fact that somebody disagrees with your shity regressive politics does not make them delusional in the least.

If by "book" you mean dictionary, then you're spot on.

And if you have a shallow depth of thought, you could argue this discussion is over someone who "disagrees with my shity regressive politics," but in actuality the topic is your apparent delusion.

Whether the demographic in question is political affiliation or any other demographic harboring massive quantities of people that are assigned this demographic (as opposed to actively joining a group), regarding them as white supremacists, if genuine, is delusional.

The one yet again he had to go back on and was disgraced as a failure as in fact it did not stop immigrants and carried on increasing. Your the one who is clueless if you don't even know how badly it failed. Just within a year he had to forget the whole idea of sending people back because it wasn't working and the ones sent back after he got rid of the strict policy just all came back afterwards. Effectively doing jack all, plus he sent home people separating from their kids while keeping their kids in America meanwhile the parents had to go home, which again after a year they all came back reuniting the family but only to go back to exactly how it was before.
So they all stayed in America anyway.
If you want education look shit up, it's not hard to find out that it didn't work hell there is even a documentary about it. Calls me clueless but has no idea on facts himself lol.

@Kaneki05 I agree the kid separation thing was idiotic. The families should have been sent home intact. That was an implementation policy. I'm talking about the whole idea of allowing those who show up at the border to essentially determine our immigration policy, as seems to be the current trend.
