Why do people just assume I’m American?

Question

Because whenever I ask a question most treat it as if I live in America and answer accordingly lol. I’m Australian by the way. Why is it just assumed I’m American by default?

Americans and Australians are not that different in appearance and overall philosophy. During World War II, many American soldiers were based on the Brisbane area and married Australian women, so there's a significant number of Australians in Queensland that are descended from Americans.

This app is predominantly used by Americans, I guess. It may also be the way you talk or the opinions you give. People assume that I'm either American or British until I tell otherwise. I'm neither from USA or from the UK.

This site was started in St. Louis, Missouri and primarily services Americans. While they have advertised over the years in many countries, the bulk of the community population is still likely located in the USA. In Australia when you walk down the street why do you assume others that walk down the street are Australian? They could be visiting your country from anywhere... The odds are though, that they are most likely Australian right? The same concept carries over to an American website...

Because most people here are American, that's basically the default. So most people will assume you're American, especially if you speak English, unless they have a reason to think you're not.
Which is often the case with me until I inevitably make a spelling or grammatical mistake and they understand that I'm not American.

It's not just you. The vast majority of GAG users are American, so the odds of any random user being American are very high.
