Same thing that happened when Obama raised it, car makers will make less low mileage vehicles (which drives their prices up in a free market and pushes smaller cars.) Then they mass produce the smaller high mileage cars that people don't want as much.
Thus a pickup truck or SUV will cost as much as a house, and we can thank Democrats for interfering in the free market.

My 1998 VW TDI would give 48 mpg in any kind of driving. I know VW doesn’t import diesels anymore!
I can’t prove this but I heard in Europe, the cars get a whole lot better mileage than in the US.

No there wouldn't. Some guy did invent a way to run a car on water and the government ceased the patent. If the government or powers that be don't want something to get out it won't, and people have even been killed to prevent it. They don't want the money rolling in to big business cut off by some technology that leaves them out.

Y'all do realize that this has nothing whatsoever to do with the environment, right? This is to make it as expensive/hard/inconvenient as possible for people to own their own vehicles. This in turn forces people to move into higher density city housing and rely on public transportation. The more dependent people are on the government for basic needs, the easier they are to control.
Also the geisers making these pushes don't care; most will be dead before they would personally feel the effects and they frankly don't give a shit about their own kids let alone others that follow.

The democrats like to do things like stop drilling for oil and shutting down the pipeline without first finding a suitable alternative. Then they wonder why they fail. They do everything ass backwards. Biden shut wown the Keystone pipeline, telling the thousands of people he put out of work tht they will make solar panels. The truth is that there were no solar panel jobs and these people are all unemployed. A responsible leader would have had new jobs ready first and then close down construction of the pipeline Since most of these guys voted for Trump , Biden probably could not have cared less.

@nachosaresexy The downside in embracing a technology that is still in the experimental phase is that it is more expensive, does not offer all the advantages it is purported to have. Americans have a car culture. Since WW2 this country built the interstate highway system so people could travel in their own cars. People live miles away from where they work in most cases and not having dependable and efficient transportation causes hardships for most.
Electric cars need to have a long range and faster recharge time and the battery recycling needs to be addressed as well. Once that is done I plan to make my next truck an electric.
@exitseven There's a lot of dynamics with what you're saying, one of the biggies being that none of us would disagree that America's public transportation system is severely lacking compared to other developed countries.
Anyway, EVs haven't taken over just yet but it's more like around the corner than some pipe dream.
@nachosaresexy I bought my last truck in 2008. I expected my next one to be electric. Sadly, it was not. I looked at the all electric F-150. It was $65,000 for one thing. Then the sales guy would not tell me the effective range. I did not like the idea of spending an extra 20K just to be inconvenienced,.
There are aftermarket parts you can buy right now to boost up your fuel economy what is the major things that does this is your air intake flow if the more air you can breathe the better gas mileage you can get the cooler air that your car can breathe it will get better gas mileage if you notice when it's really cold outside in your car runs like way better it's because his breathing cool air

A couple sub compact deisel cars can just barely do that fuel economy. Other than that you're looking at flimsy jelly been plug in hybrids and electric cars that depend on burning shit tons of coal in power plants that don't exist and take a minimum of 10 years to get approval to begin to construct... It's a recipe for disaster.
Either that or he expects people to drop $8-10K on a small solar system if they know how to work with electricity or like $30K if they don't to charge a Tesla for an entire day, well probably a day and a half for most people so that they can drive 50 miles from home the following day. So 1-2 days without driving, for 1 day of commuting to a city. hahaha fantasy land.

Here is governments bigger problem in doing this. There is still a serious lack of new and used cars, so everyone is fixing up their current car. They will be keeping those cars much much longer! Second precious metals to build these batteries that only last a few years are getting very scarce along with mining them makes drilling for oil a much cleaner and greener option!
The whole thing is ridiculously stupid. Instead of incentivizing alternative energy and allowing the market to gradually evolve, they punish everyone because the technology isn’t sufficient and it’s going to backfire for everyone, including those pushing green energy.

In real numbers, that's 5.88 Liters per 100 km. I've got a 10 year old car that does that. It's an average, so as long as they sell lots of efficient cars, they can also sell some gas guzzlers. Maybe raise the price on them?

Yeah, it can happen in the next 5 - 10 years. Electric is the answer, but remember, every time you plug in to recharge, you are using electricity, and depending on what your local energy distributor is using for fuel, it can be a polluter.
Seeing as Electric Hybrids can run about 160 mpg, that's doable.. At least more doable than him still being alive to see it!

It's easily achieved by making cars smaller and more fuel-efficient. 40 mpg isn't an unreasonable target, even 50 mpg is achievable if you believe manufacturers.

the only way to do that is to force more gas-powered vehicles off the road and increase electric/hybrid vehicles. That comes with its own set of problems which have been well-documented.

They want to restrict freedom of movement and confine you in surveillance SMART cities where your every movement is tracked and your behavior is controlled through a social credit system. If you toe the party line and obey, then you can get a train ticket to visit someone out of your designated sector one in a while. If not, you in permanent lock down.
