Were you ever a boyscout/girlscout? How long were you a member?

I was in the Girl Scouts of America 7 years. Later I served as a leader for my daughters' troops.

Yes ! In fact, I was a Boy Scout in 2 separate jurisdictions! I was with  Boy Scouts of the Philippines  for the  2 school-years  I was in a certain private-school, since membership was automatic with enrollment. If I'm not mistaken, I was with  Boy Scouts of America  for  5 years or so , after moving to the U. S. and being invited by a neighborhood-friend.

I was a boy scout for 5 or 6 years then went into the explorer scouts where we helped out with emergencies at football games. We did have one lady go into labor at one of the games and we hade to get her down the stadium steps on a gurney so she could be taken to the hospital.

Was in Cub Scouts and Weeblos for only two years, but I really enjoyed it.

The first year was Cub Scouts and for whatever reason, our den had a real spirit an enthusiasm. The highlight coming with the annual candy sale. Our whole team went all out and ended up outselling our nearest competition in the back by 74%.

This I recall because when the pack leader announced the winner of the candy sale competition, the whole pack "ooohed" and "ahhhed." Never forget that. Then as icing on the cake we also gained the perfect attendance award that same night.

Beyond that we did the usual Cub Scout stuff, including tours of the local police, fire and sheriff's departments. The other thing that sticks out was that the adult head of our pack happened to be a newscaster on one of the local tv stations - channel 4 in Detroit. For whatever he took an interest in me and taught me about the new business and thus, I think, set me on my career path.

The next year was Weeblos. I really enjoyed that too, but we moved out of the neighborhood mid-year and so I had to leave.

For whatever reason I did not rejoin in the new neighborhood. Still, I have nothing but fond memories. I was not really an "outdoors" kind of kid so I don't know if I would have enjoyed Boy Scouts, but overall, I have only favorable feelings toward scouting.

I joined the Cub Scouts when I was old enough. One cool experience was going to the Indian village at Knott's Berry Farm. Four other boys and I got to go into an authentic teepee where a "real" Indian (a nice Native American man in traditional garb) kind of initiated us. He asked us what our Native American names were. For some reason, I said "Red Eagle"). He looked surprised and said that was his name. In the end, I was presented with a headband and two real eagle feathers. One was dyed red.

I only stayed in the Cub Scouts for one year. My parents had enough on their plates. Plus, we were Catholic, and I think they were turned off by the protestant form of Christianity that the organization was all about. So, at the end of the year, when it was time to move on to the Boy Scouts, they asked me if I wanted to keep going and I said I didn't care. Some parts of it were attractive, but I don't think I was interested in committing my life to it.

Didn't do cubscouts, started to late, was a boyscout as long as I could be, which is 18. Didn't quite make it to eagle, think I got to life but ran out of time, need specific badges that would have taken longer than I had before I turned 18.

My Troup went down hill after me and my friends grew up and left, the new softies ruined our long running record of camping at least once a month every month, hot or cold, rain or shine we camped at least once a month. We'd get a green icicle if it dipped below 0°f at any point during the camping weekend and a blue icicle if it was below 0 all weekend.

Right now I don't think I could put up with being responsible for kids, maybe by time I have kids, which would make sense lol. But even then I don't know if I would cause feminists had to force girls into the boyscouts instead of changing their lame activities, so it's hard for me to be nostalgic when the organization I grew up with is dead and gone.

I was only up to brownie in girl scouts. Then I volunteered for my daughter's group for 2 years until it was brought to our attention their leader's brother she had helping and taking our daughters to events was a sex offender. So the group ended and all the money they made selling cookies didn't go to them.

So when they finally found a new troop leader months later i was already disgusted and no longer trusted them with my daughter. One young girl that was that troop leader's step-daughter was molested. The cops interviewed all of us. It was them who informed the girls scouts that the step moms (our leader) brother was a sex offender.

I'm thankful my daughter wasn't inappropriately touched. But i was close to all the girls and really was upset for the other girl. 4 months after pulling my daughter out I found out two more girls were molested by one of the step dads that also volunteered a lot. I couldn't help but be brokenhearted for all of them.

Here in Trinidad and Tobago we have Girl Guides.
You begin in Brownies at age 6 to 7 then progress to Girl Guides about years later then Senior Guides in your tweens. You can then go to Rangers and a whole bunch of other ranks going up and up and up. I stopped at Senior guides at around 12 or 13.

No never was. My mother always told me we couldn't afford it. 🤷 I just went with what she said and never questioned it. Until now I never looked into the price. Seems it falls somewhere between 56 to 100+. There seems to also be fees depending if its a girl or boy registering. I have no idea what it was 20 years ago. Oh well can't change the past and who knows maybe my mother was being honest.

I made Eagle Scout May 8, 2003. I’m not sure what is going to happen with putting my daughters in either of their scout options, but if we end up going the BSA route you better bet I’m going on EVERY event.

I had lots of fun, but I was very naive to not release until high school that a lot of the girls were having secret partys without me. I overheard like half the girls bullying me behind my back and they were only being nice to me because my mom was the troop leader

Was one in the late 80's, I believe from '88 to '89. Made it to Webelos which means We'll (It's we, but we'll makes more sense to me) be loyal scouts. It was fun earning badges and learning quite a bit outdoors.
