Why don't men have the right to opt out of fathethood?

Question

I have no say if she wants to terminate and can also do it without even telling me anything. Yet if she keeps it, i have to help pay child support and let's be real, a lot of women use that money on themselves. So why don't men have the right to opt out of fatherhood? Where's the equality in that?

I think it really depends.

If the child is born through irresponsible, unsafe sex and ignorance of both parents, both should be on the hook if the decision is made to keep the child.

If the man was, however, lied to - or trapped - he should be allowed to withdraw all rights and not be held responsible for child support. However, it would require proof that the man never wanted to have a child and did everything reasonably possible to avoid it - e. g. condoms and/or birth control - and that the baby mother trapped through either lying about the pill or poking holes in the condom.

This is why it's important to always use a condom. Never have raw sex as a man unless you want to be a baby daddy - it's just too big a risk to go raw otherwise.

Never want kids as a man? Get snipped. Easy.

if a contract was made, i can imagine it would be honoured.
like the story of the woman who didn't want the baby. the partner did. so she carried and birthed baby but threw away any right to the child etc so it was the dude only to care for it and such.

For the same reason boys don't (see Hermesmann V Seyer, but not without a stiff drink in your hand): men get respect, even when that respect takes the form of assuming they're capable of minor miracles. Women get empathy, even when that takes the form of declaring it hopelessly bigoted to assume they're capable of basic human functioning.

The sad truth is that no political figure actually WANTS fairness, at least on this issue. Don't believe me? Just ask Marc Angelucci.

That’s a possibility if guys play it right. So far, the courts are seeing huge numbers of deadbeat dads.

But yeah, women get to decide parenthood just by it being in their body. That’s fair. But men should have some sort of opt out, too.

I think they do have the option in Sweden. There can't be equality in that situation because pregnancies can be very painful even terminations can give complications. I would just be glad you don't have to push a baby out of you
