If Liberals are all for free speech why are they all leaving Twitter?

I thought Liberals were all for free speech, even if it's something you don't agree on. Ever since Elon has taken over these so called equal rights and safe space fruit cakes don't like the idea that they might get micro aggressed by sharing the same room with someone who does not share your political views.

It’s not legitimate conservative speech that has been banned, it’s conservative misinformation and conspiracy theories…. which still clog social media to a large extent and damage social discourse. The right has embraced being bat shit crazy. It used to be the loony left but the right has eclipsed them. Free speech is a great concept when it comes to the government but not so much for social media. Even with the limited amount of censoring Twitter has employed, they’ve still had problems attracting advertisers. In all honesty, who would want to associate their product or service with the divisiveness and misinformation that has made Twitter a cesspool? Taking off more guard rails will only exacerbate Twitters problems…. or will force them to become a paid subscription. Then how many will stick around? I say let Musk open it up and watch conservatives destroy Twitter.

Firstly you don’t get to censor people for being wrong, secondly, they’re not wrong, bans are arbitrarily executed because of having opposing politics. You being merely *told* that it’s misinformation occurs just as frequently if not more often than it actually being misinformation.

Yes. Non-governmental entities can censor people as they see fit. They aren’t bound by the first amendment. If you don’t like the policies of social
media sites, then don’t use them. It’s that simple. Yes, the right does push misinformation that is not based in fact….. phantom voter fraud that no one can substantiate, pedophile rings at DC pizza parlors, Jewish space lasers, Covid remedies not based on any scientific research, Clinton assassinations, staged mass shootings…the list goes on and on. The government can’t stop you from spreading nonsense and maybe Musk will give you a platform to do it but, make no mistake, it’s still nonsense.

They’re still public accommodations. Public accommodations are in all other cases still subject to first amendment protections. It ought legally be a space that’s protected, and to whatever extent it isn’t, the spirit of 1A should still be upheld by people. Saying that Twitter isn’t subject to 1A is not a justification of any of the positions you stated, rather it is only to justify the existence of a space where people can surround themselves with others who won’t tell each other they’re wrong.

The voter fraud has been substantiated. The question wasn’t whether it existed, the question was whether it mattered.

No, it doesn’t. There’s already free speech in public accommodations. Most places of business are privately owned public accommodations. Twitter and other tech platforms are the exceptions to that, and that’s a problem. They’re treated like common carriers, rather than public accommodations.

It’s state level, but they still have free speech at state level. And the point is that it *ought* to be that they have to mind free speech where currently they aren’t. Resorting to “muh private company” is an attempt to defend the monopoly on speech. It’s the public square of the modern day. And it’s restriction and domination by a singular political slant has been destructive and toxic. The background rules remain the same, but Elon has the opportunity to handle it correctly in spite of that — freeing it for everyone to use as a public square.
