Why do cops drive their vehicles with light bulbs out?

I saw a local cop car driving at night with a headlight out, 2 months later I see it driving around at night again with a headlight out. Possibly a different car in the same department with another headlight out, but I doubt it. How do you write someone a ticket when your vehicle isn't legal itself?

A headlight being out is pretty obvious when they get out of the car multiple times every night to pull someone over.

They’re normal people just like you and I with a car to maintain. It happens. I don’t see what the big deal is. It’s a good excuse to pull someone over if they think they’re under the influence too. But overall, you’ll just get a repair order type of ticket.

I respect them. I know some great cops.. and some cocky ones as well.

They probably didn't check their squad out that day.
It isn't legal, but if they stopped you for that you could point that out to them, and request they do the same thing to themselves, or you can request a supervisor.

I got pulled over once by a cop who had a tail light out and he pulled me over for having a brake light out. Lol I knew because when he used his turn signal it was blinking twice as fast. I got a warning so I didn't mention it.

I'm talking about bulbs being burned out not them turning them off on purpose. by the way there is nothing more obvious than a cop car turning their headlights off when driving.
