It's probably already started. My guess would be the country breaking up into smaller successor nations, which remain allied for mutual defense and trade, but with many areas being left to fall into ruin as the economy resets and adapts.

There's likely to be a lot of riots, possibly revolts and civil war.

Once the dust settles it will probably be better for the average person to have a more locally driven economy, but the transition will be costly in both wealth and sadly possibly in lives.

The whole system of western democracy/capitalism is due for a pheonix cycle soon. Hopefully what comes next is better.

The real question is to how long they can keep up the facade that things aren’t catastrophically fubar. Considering they’re still pumping the stocks, I think it’s more likely whether something else will trigger a cascading effect. Something with Russia, China, another pandemic, housing market crash, debt crisis, etc. Take your pick, the entire country is on life support.

gold is the oldest asset in history. It is real money not paper. it always will be. Stocks and bonds and even Bitcoin require paper money. Gold is its own money. Can be traded directly. Keep believing your socialist , atheist professors that never had a real job in their lives.

Gold is a very common metal. One of the first recorded instances of inflation was when Mansa Musa on his pilgrimage to mecca from his African kingdom spent and gave away so much Gold that it caused massive inflation in Egypt.
Stocks and bonds are worth plenty espicially during economic crashes if you are able to buy them low, this is what happened during the last economic crisis, the wealthy sold their stocks and bonds at a high price before hand and bought more at a low price.
Bitcoin is a giant Pyramid scheme, probably the biggest in history. It won't be the likes of Elon Musk that ends up broke out of it.
The worth of Gold is dictated strictly by the availability of it like silver or any other commonity or mineral resource, platinum is actually worth more. The amount of Gold mined is strictly controlled as to not destabilise the world economy by overmining it. If your economy was back only by Gold all a rival would have to do is flood the market with Gold. Russia who depends on oil/gas had this happen during thd Obama administration when fracking started, it also brought opec countries into line the loss of oil/gas revenue.
Real wealth is control of the energy sector, electric, gas, oil, nuclear and so on. This is what the war on Ukraine is all about. There's also control of trade. There's going to be a wheat shortage so ownership of as much wheat as possible will be worth a lot, plus maize as you can corn flour to make bread, who I'd the biggest grower of maize?
