Should people who commit crimes with guns have their trigger finger amputated?

In the UK sticking two fingers up is a general "fuck you" sign similar to the American middle finger. A popular Urban myth is the French would chop the fingers off captured archers and so before battle the archers would raise them to show they still had them. It is of course total bollocks but it has given me an idea.

If people commit crimes with guns should we chop their trigger finger off? This would make it difficult for the them to use a gun in the future as well as acting as a visual reminder to behave.

I've seen multiple videos of people chopping the fingers or hands off of thieves in Africa.
I think that something similar happens in some parts of India where they chop off the right hand.

Not really. The Democrats are trying to cut back on the guns, but the Republicans refuse to allow that. A few Republicans have come out and pleaded with the other Republicans to at least limit assault weapons and tighten up requiring background checks to purchase guns, but the majority of the Republican lawmakers insist it is their right to have any guns they want regardless of how many innocents are killed. Lots of talk on the subject after all those elementary school kids were killed the other day, but the Republicans refuse to give up their right to kill anyone.
