How come people in the 2020s are so uptight and judgmental when we spent the entire 2010s trying to become more liberal and accepting?

Because the meaning of "liberal" began to shift as the political culture changed. Certain hucksters I won't name realized that their meal ticket of bitching about inequality was threatened by a society growing ever more egalitarian, and began campaigning for equal *outcomes* instead of equal opportunities.

A number of orchestras, noticing their female membership was far less than half, began holding blind auditions to eliminate any possibility of sex discrimination, and as you'd expect in an industry that competitive, the percentage of female members promptly plummeted.

This enraged the usual clods, who brought forth enough public pressure to get the palicies revoked, and began the slew of "we want our organization to look like the community it serves" which you see in so many companies and public organizations today.

The goal gradually changed from treating everyone equally to not being seen to discriminate against favored groups. Then BLM began, and the dialogue there quickly went from "police use of excessive force is out of control" to "evil white cops are hunting black people for sport". Whenever an organization can claim " if you don't agree with us, you're a bigot" and be taken seriously, egalitarianism is all but dead.

And somewhere out there, the ghost ef Ernest Belfort Bax prepares for the mother of all "I told you so"s.

i dont like police brutality but i dont think we need to over exaggerate narratives. and certain minority groups like mentally challenged autistic/adhd and mentally ill are having an even tougher time and struggle due to there new uptight social rules they try to put in place that are terribly inconsistent.

You still have more accepting and welcoming people around. The judgmental ones have always been more louder, so it seems like most of the people now are judgmental.

As the old adage goes: “Empty vessels make more noise.”

Nowadays, there is a lot of “fake positivity” stuff going on and many people are becoming extremists, hating one another. Real positivity is good, but fake is not.

Another thing, a lot of people, in real life do not really talk much about politics except during the elections. Since a lot of people nowadays are glued to their phones and social media, it seems like everyone is constantly talking about politics.

I was very young in the 2000s. I would have been 6 years old in 2010 and wasn’t much into politics, so I do not remember much.
