I'd like the president to at least act like he's a servant of the people and not elected nobility. Church attendance is great and inspiring, but it's nothing more than theatre if they aren't actual believers. Donald Trump pretty ironically did this better than probably anyone since Bill Clinton, but I'm very skeptical about his proclaimed religious views being authentic; he's probably a nondenominational Christian or agnostic at most. Joe Biden is engaged in full on blasphemy and doesn't seem to uphold even basic Catholic beliefs so he's full of it though I wish he weren't or would at least be honest about it.

Ultimately what matters most to me is that these people actually are who they say they are (even if I don't necessarily agree with them) and treat the office as a responsibility rather than a throne. A major problem with career politicians and often their advisors and staff is that they basically exist in an echo chamber and are completely detached from regular people. This is how even ultra-wealthy elites who aren't part of those circles, like Donald Trump and Elon Musk can very effectively energize and connect with people while establishment swampers who've been on capitol hill for a hundred years like Nancy Pelosi, Mitch McConnell, Chuck Schumer, and Mitt Romney always seem to be lost in the sauce and won't ever win anything outside of their own districts.

I'd rather see an openly atheist president instead of all the fakes. The country is not ready for that though. It would be interesting to see if a candidate who admitted being atheist could win.

As for Clinton, I read a big chunk of his autobiography but didn't finish it. I don't remember him mentioning being religious. Although it could be he mentioned it but I don't remember it. He probably went to church as a child. Virtually everyone did back then. But that doesn't mean much.
