That's a pretty sharp rise. So what caused it? Paranoia, the wish to defend yourself maybe. Cause could also be a society that is scared witless, due to the last president who was in office, or this president is too soft and lets all the laws be passed without really paying attention or caring.
I know this question has been posed a few times recently, and frankly the whole statistic pales into insignificance, compared to all the wars and atrocities that are going on in the world. IMHO US citizens react like a bunch stung by bees when someone shoots up a shopping mall, but give less than a cent for what's happening in the Ukraine, for instance.
If it was up to me, all weapons on this planet would be melted down and the production banned for the foreseeable future, cos the human race ist not capable of self control.

A large amounts of social and political strife will result in a up tick in both violent crime and suicide. This was proven true even before America was even a country. It is also true the world over and always has been. Simply because of the major uptick of stress, anger, sadness and tension it causes in people.

So it's not really surprising that we are seeing a uptick in both given the high amount of social and political strife we are dealing with now. Simply because in a lot of ways we are long past the point of having a civil conversation politically and socially on many things. Because many people on both sides of a given debate refuse to give up their my way or the highway attitude.

If you want to see the uptick in both people need to reel in their emotions and start getting to a point where civil conversations can be had. Also people on all sides of a given debate need to be willing to hold both sides of the political isle and mainstream media in account for their actions. Because both sides are doing their level best to add fuel to the already roaring fire.

It was on the decline until the pandemic. It’s only going to get worse as people continue to get more and more demoralized and lose hope, their jobs, their homes, their families and their futures. Gun control was a luxury of the Wests decadence. We’re headed for a very dystopian future and people need to prepare themselves for it.

Break up the American Empire.

Partition it into separate nation-states. Do like Mr. Farrakhan said and come together at a negotiating table with all the different ethnic groups, hash out a plan where everybody gets satisfactory territories and resources.

Or have a civil war.

Those are really the only 2 options.

Not a fan of banning everything, due to cause and effect. And I certainly don't want to live in a puritanical society, that's simply winding back the clock 400 years.
Just trying to see if someone has an answer, like removing gunpowder is not going to help cos another substance would be invented pretty quick. Same with laser or radioactive weapons. There is no simple answer, but a sensible approach, without paranoid politicians may help.
A weapon really only has one purpose, being in possession is acting god, deciding over life and death. Sorry bub, not your privilege, says the law in just about every country
