He basically told Bill Maher (who blames violence on guns) that the USA's problem is not guns in and of themselves, but the culture of violence found in certain areas.
Is Cornell West correct?

I don't think it's either or - I think it's both.
There have always been mentally ill people in America 🇺🇸. They didn't go around shooting everyone with AR-15-, and killing massive amounts of people!!! Come on man!!! The crazy people are the Democrats! How many shooters were Republicans? Maybe they are neither. Maybe they are too mentally ill to even know what's going on in the world. But these shitheads plan these shootings, just like they make plans to go looting stores.
I've been around mentally ill people. The shooters aren't mentally ill, they are crazy. The internet is partly to blame, along with gaming too much since they were kids.
Then these type of people have parents and other relatives that buy them these AR-15 type of gun for their birthday 🎉 yippee! Four days after they turn 18, they take that birthday present and shoot it at everyone and everything they can. Maybe they are just checking it out to see if it works 🤔.
How come we never see a female mass shooter. Aren't they crazy too? What? Don't they get AR-15 guns for their birthday?
They say there are more than 28 million assault weapons in America 🇺🇸, so there are plenty to go around!
Maybe the people that are crazy are the relatives of these shootings are the one's who are crazy! They give teenager these guns for their birthday. And don't forget that Christmas is right around the corner in plenty of time for crazy relatives to buy more assault weapons for Christmas gifts. Who will get the message out to the crazy relatives to not buy assault weapons as presents for their relatives? No one even mentions how the shooter got the gun until after they they do a mass shooting. And this is the second mass shooter I've heard about where their parents or grandparents got them the assault weapons for their birthday. They should have laws for that to stop as well.
I must add that the shooter in the Texas School Shooting was 18 for just 4 days when he purchased his assault weaponry. He passed the background check because it seems they don't check your criminal history before age 18. So, they pass the background check. That needs to change as well. It should show your life's criminal background not just 18 +.
Guns aren't the problem the people who use them for ill reasons are.
Guns have been around and more easily accessible for far longer than mass shootings have been common in the US, and the relevant technologies and capabilities of modern firearms have been unchanged since the 1950s. Cornell West's argument holds far more water.

The more you know...
Nah, he was just too nice to tell that fuckwit Maher to his face. Mainly that shitstirrers like him are the reason people get angry, and riled up to commit violence in the first place.
Violence with guns, knives or hands is irrelevant. People like Maher built their careers riling up the masses. They make money on books, shows and talking about those that react to their demagoguery.
He's partially correct. We're currently in a nihilistic culture. When women proudly march to murder their unborn children and call them a 'clump of cells', black people are told that all whites want to murder them, democrats are told that republicans are all 'nazis', people who won't wear a mask or get an experimental injection want to "kill your grandma", and that 'words are violence' why isn't violence an acceptable response?
He makes a valid point. The presence if guns makes it easier for gun violence, and living in a culture that accepts violence makes it more likely.
No. Many crimes are committed by people that have records. People that got bailed out just weeks before. Soft on crime is letting more and more criminals out when they should be locked up.
neither its due to drug use and kids living without consequences for the past 35 years
The gangs is the most violence
Fuck that guy.
