Because the heads-of-states today can order the deaths of others from a far away, safe, air-conditioned building instead of joining the troops in the battlefield as of old… without of taking responsibility and joining in the outcome of their decision.

Because industries (ex. weapons-manufacturers, military contractors, etc.) profit from war, influence decision-makers, and even have personnel become decision-makers.

Because the citizenry actually trust "news"-media when they've been documented to "manufacture consent" on war. Yes, it's true!
    https://institute.aljazeera.net/en/ajr/article/1365 (by Doha's state-media Al-Jazeera)
https://press.armywarcollege.edu/parameters/vol32/iss3/4/ (U. S. Army War College Press's Parameters: Contemporary Strategy & Landpower publication)
https://www.mindef.gov.sg/oms/content/dam/imindef_media_library/graphics/pointer/PDF/2014/Vol.40%20No.3/4)%20V40N3_The%20-CNN%20Effect-%20and%20the%20-New%20Media-%20-%20Its%20Value%20and%20Challenges%20to%20Governments%20and%20Its%20Military%20in%20United%20Nations%20Peac.pdf (Singapore's Pointer: The Journal of the Singapore Armed Forces publication)

Because people actually join the military, when there are (less-known, less-advertised) alternatives for serving their communities. In the case of the U. S., each State has a State Guard (or "State defense militia") generally confined to serving in their State, and separate from the National Guard, which Washington uses for wars abroad. For example:
    the Texas State Guard,
    https://tmd.texas.gov/state-guard
    the California State Guard,
    https://calguard.ca.gov/csg/
    the New York Guard,
    https://dmna.ny.gov/nyg/
and others. Unfortunately, while each State has laws authorizing them, not all are activated by their respective governors.

They don't- leaders do. The average Russian guy on the street may want to see Russia return to power and glory, but he doesn't want to see Ukranians slaughtered wholesale. He doesn't want to hear about his friends getting shot or blown up, or hospitals and schools blasted to rubble. He may not even want to be reunited with Ukraine.

Putin's a different story. Just like Dubya.

I once saw a manipulated picture (what I think they call a "meme", though I'm not versed in that part of internet culture) of a group of people standing on a scaffold with ropes around their necks. One guy, labeled "Russian war protester", is sobbing openly, and the caption says "I'm so ashamed. I've never been so embarrassed to be Russian.". Another guy, who's actually smiling, labeled "American war protester", looks over at him and says "First time?".

Leaders generally choose war when they feel they're not held accountable to their people. If it were up to me, nobody will be able to attack another country without first having to read Twain's "The War Prayer" out loud at a press conference.

Because they want money or power or the leader is just mentally not okay. Remember the leaders make the choices not the whole country.
Putin has started a war, not whole Russia. If you speak up you get killed so they don't have a choice but to follow.

      Lmao

Zelensky and his neo-nazi thugs are the ones kidnapping and murdering journalists, tying people to telephone poles, hiding behind civilians, bombing maternity wards, etc.

Ukrops and their barbarism in Donbass for the past 8 years are an example of EXACTLY why war is sometimes necessary. There is no negotiating with Azov, Aidar, Right Sector and other nazi scum.

Russia just wants the old Soviet union back. I think he truly believes that he is saving those countries.
But I think he's only making it worse.
But I hate how the rest of the world just sits back and watches. EU and US could take him out in days. Easily.
But they're waiting untill it's too late.

War is armed conflicted and we mustn't forget that it's not inherently a crime, it can have unfortunate outcomes but war can be legitimate.
There are many reasons that wars are fought over that are worth standing behind, and conflict is often times a clashing of different ideologies when the rights or interests of two or more parties is perceived to be violated and the conclusion is armed interference.
The infringement upon beliefs, scarce life, honor and family, money and property, reason.
Violence is an essential tool to sort many of the real-life issues, pacifism doesn't save self or the vulnerable.
Sometimes obviously wars will be run by self interest and illegitimate occupations but the firet power against the unlawful aggression is throwing hands at it.

I worked in the tech sector for three decades. After the internet bubble burst in 1999, the tech sector contracted, there were layoffs. A lot of guys had to find new employment. I went to work with a Japanese manufacturer. I had a "handler" who interfaced with headquarter in Japan but lived in United States. The two of us were at a trade show in Baltimore and my Japanese handler remarked "I love the American West because it is so vast." I replied that it is difficult to live there because of the arid climate and lack of water resources. He immediately replied "We should have World War 3 so Japan can take it away from you." These fucking foreigners who come here on H1 visas may smile all day at your, pretend to be your friend and say they love America but deep down, when you look inside , they want to kill you. Dont ever turn your back on someone with an H1 visa.

Risk vs reward economics. If you put $1 into a war and get $5 back on the resources there compared to $1 into trading and getting $3 back. So it would obviously be economical viable to go to war. That was the majority of human history with war.

In modern day it just coats too much. The weapons cost too much. Solders want benefits and rights. Other Countries get upset and stop trading with you and trade with your enemies. So trading becomes more economical viable.

Easy, because they: (1) cannot obtain their desired ends peacefully, and (2) they believe they have the capability of obtaining these ends forcefully.

The first is typically true, as many scenarios come down to zero-sum games- but the latter is rife with miscalculations, not to mention the friction/ fog of war Carl Von Clausewitz spoke of.

Because at times it’s the only real option, it’s the last option.

Exactly how could World War 2 head unless it was a war.

Same with WW1 with various treaties dragging countries in to it.

Look at the Balkans, there was ethnic cleansing going on and war rape by the Serbians.

As for wanting money etc, people need to realise the financial impact on a country in a major war, it took nearly 100 years for the UK to pay off its WW1 debt.

Most wars are about resources. Country A has something that country B doesn't have and wants, so country B goes to war with country A. Plus, war is usually good for a country's economy, at least in the short term. And, finally, the rulers of some countries are just paranoid and want to take over the world.

Their's a lot of money to be made through war. U start one, then tell them you'll help them fix their issue. Put them in debt. Request payment. They read the fine print. They can't afford it. Then Request for natural resources till the debt is paid in full. Charge them in their own currency value of the resource. They will remain indefinitely in debt with u. Exploit their people to build and manufacture ur needs. Pay them in their own currency... OK.. i think u get it.

common belief is that war is result of failed diplomacy. very rarely is there a "winner."
only people who would ever want war are those who have not experienced it or those who are insane.
political hacks, armchair/e-warriors and muckrakers who call for war should be the first ones shipped to a combat role on the front lines so that they can experience that which they've favored first hand.

Because humanity thrives on chaos, the world can never truly be a utopia because humanity will eventually get bored. It’s unfortunate but humanity just can’t function without fulfilling its bloodlust which will lead us down a self destructive path that will ultimately lead to the end of civilization as we know it.

People in power sometimes want more power. The problem is when people are so scared of what that dictator will do, they follow blindly without ever questioning the right or wrong of doing so.

There will never be world peace. It’s human nature to want to be combative and the 60s/70s hippies were full of shit.

With that said nobody really WANTS war. But unfortunately it’s a sad reality of the human race.

It‘s not „countries“ it‘s the government snd the billionaires and corporations who bribe them. The rich and powerful of both countries send their poor to die and kill each other for capital interests and power for the rich.
