Why are women kept in the same bracket as children?

Whenever a news reporter reports about the number of people killed by an attack in a war or by a natural calamity why do they say " there were (number of people) deaths out of which (number of people) were women and children?

It's not that women are kept in the same bracket as children. It's that men are in their own bracket, IE the "don't give a fuck" bracket. Men dying in war is always deemed as acceptable, and anyone but men dying in war is deemed as unacceptable. That's all there is to it. Men are seen as disposable.

Because they are still seen as a group of people that’s needs protection and typically people are more offended by the idea of a woman or a child being harmed so it gets more media attention because that how we’ve been programmed to react in western culture.

They could say "x number of soldiers and x number of civilians." So I think it's more to pull heartstrings of people who still infantalize women. Same reason they don't just call it "civilians" even if it was only children and soldiers killed. Children gets more reaction. Of course this is my cynical opinion.

But soldiers have their own counts and what are most soldiers? Male. So u remove that large male population away and what’s left over the women the children and the male non soldiers… but way more women and children hence the women and children numbers

@JohnK123 hmm but instead of "most" civilians and "most" soldiers being reported "mostly" in their own correct categories, why not be absolutely accurate and group "all" civilians and "all" soldiers together when reporting casualties? You get every person properly grouped, with no overlap and no grey area. 100% accurate, and much more efficient. Why would you NOT report them as soldiers and civilians?

The soldiers and civilians already have their own group… the civilian part merges with the women and children… they are just the majority so that’s what they call them if 8 million women and children flee ukraine in one day the counters might only pass like 10,000 men, but that might be higher or lower so they add them to the women and kids group. It’s not sexist it’s just the majority of soldiers are men especially marshal law

"50 civilians dead" or "50 women and children dead"? Which one of those is closer to accurate? Do you think just because we can't get 100% accurate we should TRY to be less accurate than we normally are?

What is the benefit? We know that it is not accurate, not necessary, and not even more efficient. There is no reason not to use people in cases where women and men are both included.

@JohnK123 I'm not even involved in this. I know nobody is going after me. I know more women are civilians than soldiers. I know you aren't in charge of it, but you are the one who thinks it makes sense and isn't sexist. So I'm just asking for ANY reason you can think of to explain why we use less accurate labels for reporting. Every single civilian is a civilian. More are women, but the women are still included under the label "civilian" while the male citizens are not included under the label "women." The ONLY difference between the two is that men are included *with women* with civilian. Women are not excluded with "civilian" they are all counted just like they are with "women". Do you understand that? Cause I feel like I have to keep repeating it because you keep going back to majority even though that same majority is included in gender neutral and well established labels like civilians and soldiers. Do you know that using the label civilian does not exclude or misrepresent women, because the women represented by the label ARE civilians? Does that make sense?

Usually to separate the combatant numbers from the noncombat numbers. That generally men do most of the fighting is the implication but plenty of women fight too.
So those numbers are used to sway public opinion on the conflict.

Because women and children have a lot of things in common that men don't have. Both are physically weak and need more protection, both are sensitive and easily offended, both need more encouragement, both are emotionally susceptible.
