Fifteen Years Ago, America Destroyed My Country
My short visit only confirmed my conviction and fear that the invasion would spell disaster for Iraqis. Removing Saddam was just a byproduct of another objective: dismantling the Iraqi state and its institutions. That state was replaced with a dysfunctional and corrupt semi-state. We were still filming in Baghdad when L. Paul Bremer III, the head of the Coalition Provisional Authority, announced the formation of the so-called Governing Council in July 2003. The names of its members were each followed by their sect and ethnicity. Many of the Iraqis we spoke to on that day were upset with institutionalization of an ethno-sectarian quota system. Ethnic and sectarian tensions already existed, but their translation into political currency was toxic. Those unsavry characters on the governing council, most of whom were allies of the United States from the preceding decade, went on to loot the country, making it one of the most corrupt in the world.
No one knows for certain how many Iraqis have died as a result of the invasion 15 years ago. Some credible estimates put the number at more than one million. You can read that sentence again. The invasion of Iraq is often spoken of in the United States as a “blunder,” or even a “colossal mistake.” It was a crime. Those who perpetrated it are still at large. Some of them have even been rehabilitated thanks to the horrors of Trumpism and a mostly amnesiac citizenry. (A year ago, I watched Mr. Bush on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show,” dancing and talking about his paintings.) The pundits and “experts” who sold us the war still go on doing what they do. I never thought that Iraq could ever be worse than it was during Saddam’s reign, but that is what America’s war achieved and bequeathed to Iraqis."

But stop using our war crimes as justification to commit war crimes against other nations. They funny thing is, you guys had an opportunity to unite with Europe to punish the United States for the Iraq war.
Germany and France are to coordinate their opposition to war in Iraq, French president Jacques Chirac said today, as the two countries reaffirmed their 40-year "treaty of friendship".
Mr Chirac and German chancellor Gerhard Schröder announced a series of measures to bring the two countries closer together at the heart of Europe, including more cooperation on issues from crime to immigration, as well as foreign policy.
Their joint declaration did not mention Iraq, but at a news conference the French president said that both France and Germany believed any decision on military force should be made by the UN security council, only after UN weapons inspectors have reported on their findings.
I don't- I called it a terrible idea then just as I do now. But it had WAY too much bipartisan support for Trump to have anything to do with the imafe cehabilitation of its supporters; that began and ended LONG before he entered the political scene. I don't recall hearing anyone call out Bernie Sanders or Joe Biden or even Hilary Clinton for their pro-war votes; this is not a "Republican bad" issue.
I DO have to wonder what the hell happened to that author that made him thitk 2002 was fifteen years ago, however. I guess Iraqi schools aren't much better at teaching math than ours are.

The people behind Americas involvement should be in jail or even be put to 💀 for their involvement in human slaughter, destruction and misery. Unfortunately that will not happen as they are the same people who control intrenational institutions that uphold "human rights".
I don't justify it. How could I justify, all the lies, the death of a half million children and, about their deaths, Secretary of State Madeleine Albright saying, "... the price is worth it." Iraq has oil. The USA wanted their oil so regardless of the destruction of the country and the murder and displacement of millions of Iraqis, they took it.
Ok but then what would u have done…. When the two towers collapsed? What if the third plane made it to the White House? What would u do then? Surely not just say words to the Iraqis?
I don’t have to justify anything lol. I was in Iraq. We went there and fucked it up because we could. I didn’t vote to go there. The war mongers in Congress—all civilians—who had stock in weapons manufacturers and companies with military contracts voted to go there.

The point of the war wasn't that Iraq was currently using chemical weapons. The point is that the world believed that Iraq was hiding something when Saddam refused UN weapons inspectors access to the country. And what happened they found improperly disposed of chemical weapons that were still a danger to people. That is why Iraq was invaded
@TwoToTooTutu2 you sound ignorant you said because "they thought Iraq was hiding" they thought and found nothing many vets during that Era always say nothing was found and they're videos of Marines or Arny combat guys screaming at Bush because they felt they went to Iraq to defend their country for nothing. Their were no WMD'S Chemical weapons are the least of our worries or else we would have fully invaded Syria in a full scale war. Read a book and actually go outside and talk to people.
@Fuentes Yep it was about oil and money. Also the entire reason we where in Libya is due to Muammar Gaddafi pushing the idea of the Gold Dinar becoming the only currency used for oil transactions in Libya. A idea that he was selling to other oil countries and they where seeming to get on board with. Given that the US Dollar is the main currency used for oil transactions in OPEC countries, the idea of a Gold Dinar is a huge threat. Because it would greatly devalue the dollar both internationally and nationally. On top of forcing us to accept the change and all the issues that come with it, simply due to our lack of energy independents.
