The thing is, I actually liked hearing of ‘victory gardens’ in the World War II segment of my History Class. That was cool, the American homefront working together to support the troops and rally together to promote the general welfare and secure the blessings of liberty.

However telling consumers not to be afraid to go all out on groceries, toys, games, magazines, books, paint kits, collectibles, vacation trips, etc. is basically going against a ‘free market’. You the consumer get to choose which goods & services you buy into, when prices are high you the consumer generally consume less of a particular item.
When prices are high, corporations tend to give you less quantities for the same amount of money being traded. When you understand basic economics, you see Trump Administration’s failure to secure consumer confidence which will peddle into the recession that may come as a direct result.

We need to find a way to give consumers the confidence they need in order for them to ‘splurge’, though until that happens, the American people are in a rut.

that's an amazing statement honestly... somehow he has to nurse the country through a transition time which in all likelyhood lasts several years.

I have to wonder if the rest of the middle class sells their stocks and the corporiations buy them up cheap as the unwise always panic.

if he can end the war, that save us $300 billion a year, that's more than any tariff. But of course the $ goes into the economy so maybe that's a wash. and it's not just about money as a high number of people are being slaughtered daily in that region, so there is a sacrafice. but yea, I'd tariff them too.
