Do you consider the late John McCain a war hero?

ALL serving Veterans are 'heroes' for mortgaging their lives to safeguard their fellow citizens.
McCain drew the fickle luck of War's draw to have been shot down and survived the encounter~
To those hapless of his adversaries who by McCain's attack runs were slain,
do you NOT believe to THEIR surviving families, THEY TOO were patriotic heroes?
'Wars are NOT won by dying for your country; wars are won
by making the OTHER SOB die for THEIR country"
I served 7.5 years and have taken other's lives on four occasions
'up close & personal'... but NEVER without first giving my Assailant the choice to disengage FIRST.
Absolutely. Don’t agree with much of what he agreed with politically, but I’d never say he’s not a stand-up dude.
Always respected the hell out of him for this…
As opposed to…

He spent his time in as POW. He is a hero because survived as a war prisoner.
Yeah he a hero. He actually served. And most niggas would snitch with just the threat of going to jail
Imagined being tortured.
That's some fuck boy shit by trump. and I voted for trump.
a hero is someone who is better than everyone else and destroys an enemy or successfully eliminates a danger
he does not meet this definition
The man denied himself an early release from the hands of the enemy already being badly hurt unless they let go other soliders as well only to see himself being tortured almost the point of death.
If that isn't some hero stuff then what is?
Trump sure as hell wouldn't sacrifice and stay there let alone actually go fight in the war.
self sacrifice is noble. john mccain is noble.
but nobility is not enough to be a hero

Sir, John McCain has been awarded the following medals:
(1) Silver Star
(2) Legions of Merit with combat V
(3) Bronze Stars with Combat V
He is a bone fide war hero. That’s a total of 6 medals grated to individuals only for valor in combat. That means not only did he go to war, not only did he serve in combat, and not only did perform with Valor in combat, but he did it 6 times! The Combat V indicates the award was earned for valor in combat. I will attach links below so you can read the criteria for each. John was a Navy Pilot. The silver star is only awarded for combat valor.
Many men go to combat. FEW are awarded medals for individual valor.

He’s a true blue war hero several times over.
3 bronze stars. Not sure what happened there.
He also has 2 Purple Hearts for being wounded twice.
Not to mention he served in 3 separate campaigns. He served in Nam for 2 tours.
He also has an Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal and Navy Expeditionary Medal, both of which are awarded strictly for military operations which were combat missions.
Navy seals get lots of Navy Expeditionary Medals when they go do missions apart from a war. A special mission. Those are awarded when the mission included elements of the Navy, Marine Corps, or Coast Guard only. They are a generic campaign medal for smaller combat operations.
Armed Forces Expeditionary Medals are awarded when there were Naval forces + Army or air force elements in the operation. They are also a generic campaign medal. They are awarded for operations like Somalia (Blackhawk Down) where there was combat in the mission but it wasn’t a war like Vietnam or Korea or whatever.
That effectively means he fought in one major war and 2 minor wars.
Not to mention he was a POW.
Yes.
Yes.
