Would the world be a better place if religion ceased to exist?

To me, I say yes. so much blood had been shed, and certain groups of people have been treated like shit thanks to religion. Plus there is zero scientific evidence of any higher being existing.

I have never seen anything positive come from religion, ever.

Originally, it was simply a superstition for early man to explain natural occurrences that they didn't have the knowledge to explain otherwise.

Later on, it was hijacked by opportunistic people who saw the untapped potential for power, control, and monetary gain, so they used it to take advantage of the masses, by preying on their fears.

Now it's just an insidious relic of a past age that refuses to die, while people continue to use it for power and control.

I've always believed so, but then I realised. It's not religion that causes these conflicts. It is people's misinterpretation of it.

For the everyday person in the street, religion is something to improve their lives. I don't see anything wrong with that. It is when they try and impose their beliefs on others which I have issue with..

Also.. Just because someone uses religion to start a war, doesn't mean they wouldn't find other reasons for doing so.

Religion isn't the problem. It's just the people out there who can't lets us leave in peace just because of our beliefs. They can just mind their own business because we aren't hurting anyone. Gosh what's so hard to understand about that?

Yes!!! Religion should be illegal. The invisible guy in the sky with superpowers has so many demands: no sex, no this no that... he gets upset over small things after creating a universe and stuff...

what replaces the training to the human? If there is a strong ethical and boundary training consistent across humanity based upon love and consideration, maybe better. The problem is they diverge and people argue... then fight.

But on the bright side, it's good for helping to prevent global population and thus global climate change. ?

Nope. People have never developed a system they couldn’t corrupt. Religion, like government, is just an idea. Ideas aren’t necessarily good or bad. It’s how we act on them that is good or bad. Lots of people have done lots of good things thanks to religion same as lots of people have done lots of bad things thanks to religion. It’s definitely not good to abandon order just because some people take advantage of the system.

I don't think so. Belief in something greater than yourself leaves one prone to evil (serving ones self). The problem with religion is evil people seeking to corrupt / control it & the ignorant ones that fail to judge/reward/punish others on their actions & not just their words.

Hmmm, I think it's a double edged sword. It has caused wars and violence BUT it supplied and supplies people with morals. Would the world be a better place without? Who knows. It’s tough to say war is wholly bad in the first place, it seems to drive innovation. It’s tough to say those morals in religion are right on the other end.

No. I think the opposite. Religion isn't bad. People who use it wrong are.
Example: if your God approves of you killing... you need a new God.
I derive peace from my religion. And I'm vehement against anyone who fanatically spreads my religion. I think a good product sells itself.
