Gas price in the USA have nothing to do with Russia. Oil refining is a process of chemistry. You don’t just dump any chemical reagent in your column and get the same product out. Oil refineries are tuned to specific grades of oil for specific products. West Texas Intermediate Crude Oil (WTI), otherwise known as American crude oil is a light sweet premium-quality crude oil. It is the best selection for gasoline production in the world. Next down the list would be Brent oil which primarily comes from the north sea but some oil from Africa is graded as Brent. After that OPEC oil would be best. OPEC oil is primarily from the middle east, Africa, and Venezuela. It’s not as sweet as WTI or Brent but it plays a role in gas prices. Russia exports Urals oil which is a heavy sour crude oil with high sulfur content. Current environmental regulations in the United States strictly limit the sulfur content in refined fuels such as gasoline and diesel thus Urals crude is not a useful input. Light oils like WTI are good for manufacturing gasoline, jet fuel, petroleum spirit, kerosene, petroleum ether and petroleum naphtha. In contrast heavy fuel oils are generally used for bunker oil marine fuel. You driving a container ship to work? Didn’t think so, thus Russia has nothing to do with gas prices.

This dramatic crash in oil prices bankrupted a number of small American oil companies, thus fields were closed and supply shrunk from 12.3 million barrels a day under Trump to 11.9 million barrels a day today under Biden. Third, on February 25, 2021 Biden signed an executive order to raise the carbon pollution-free from $7 a ton to $51 a ton as part of the Democrats Green New Deal. This stopped many oil field and transit projects to deliver oil because it would not be profitable under the new regulations. A slew of lawsuits inter the courts to fight the Biden regime polices and a lot of new production that would have balanced the system was stalled in litigation. This is an engineered crisis by Democrat policy. Russia is irrelevant.
