What is a redneck?

I was inspired by someone from another post to make this poll on what people think of when they hear the word "redneck". So what do YOU think?

Generally speaking, someone who lives in the south, usually in a rural area, who loves guns and typically leans conservative in terms of politics.

Mostly due to people in southern states, they have red necks from the sun. It is really kind of a derogatory term but really anymore most people who are rednecks call themselves rednecks with pride. Though it is not good to go around calling people rednecks some people could be very offended though I don't think it's as bad as the "N" word.

According to my link in the 20th century it was coal miners yes it was also used to talk about poor farmers. It can also be used as a political epithet.

I must admit. I can fall under the redneck category easily. I love hot rods/racing, trucks, got a southern accent, live in the south, etc.

Ironically, they are anti authority and anti cops. Something that modern redneck wannabees appears to have forgotten. For all the embracing of redneck culture such as hotrods, bootleg alcohol and such they forget that most of this was as a response against the government and against police. They were rebels of a sort.

Today its practically the other way around. These supposed rednecks celebrates their culture alongside blue line stickers which is hilariously contradictory.

"Red necks" refers to the chronically reddened skin on the necks of those who work outside most of the time, like farmers. It is hard to imagine coal miners having that much sun exposure unless they have a topside job.
