Most of these kids were bullied and came from dysfunctional families. I worked for a K-12 school district at the time Columbine happened. It was obvious what was going on with these kids and there was a lot of talk about trying to identify these kids and have some kind of an outreach program that would make counselors available for them. The idea never really got any traction but I think it may have helped.

Sex matters to a healthy life, and it's a fact. It's become tougher and tougher for some men to have it, also a fact, but the issues that led to this are way more impactful and more responsible to the issue that leads to school shootings. Basically, they're a very extreme endgame that goes beyond what usually ends with a suicide. It involves how men as a group are treated by society, through media, politics and education. Brazil, where I'm from, usually imports everything from the US and usually make it worse, so I don't think you people have it different over there. How mass shootings are also reported in the news is basically free advertising for a nutjob interesting in fulfilling his power fantasy, just to get their clicks and views.

I think this happens because biology kicks in. Romance is basically a less violent way to lead to reproduction, as compared to literal fighting for females. Monogamy and family have been equalizing maneuvers to mankind because it gave a chance to less attractive people to reproduce. Feminist movements along with the internet are disrupting this system and bringing it back to what it was before, where women line up for the same men and reject several others, maybe even not intentionally. That messes up with a guy's head, thinking that he's not attractive to anyone and doesn't experience love. I know because it's my reality. Add upon this what I listed before, how men are treated nowadays and how sex and love are overmarketed in society, all of it happening in large scale, since complaints like this aren't exactly uncommon in the male population. School shootings are just an extreme step beyond what usually ends up with a guy's suicide. Girls never get to this point because they've got support and understanding from society.

Living just for money and for hobbies might be worth it if they're fulfilling enough and if the life around the person helps, but this lifestyle has an expiration date. Eventually, it becomes boring or hard to leave behind, and all the fight to overcome the pointlessness of life is lost. Honestly, I can't even blame these people, but it's not enough to push them to killing other people who've got nothing to do with their situation. It goes way deeper.
