For those of you that say the government shouldn't get involved to help to make sure women or a struggling parent with a kids get the financial breaks and help is how a nation and its people stay back and don't progress to better.

We elect government to serve the people you fools.

First, no one should get tax credits for having a kid. Why should people without kids pay a higher effective tax rate for choosing not to have kids?

Second, Social Security is a Ponzi Scheme. It should be abolished. Liquidate it and cut anyone who paid into it a lump sum check to be put into a retirement account.

A few years back, the government bailed out General Motors based on the fact that if GM went belly up all those "poor union workers" would be out of work. I assume you were not for that bail out.

General Motors should have gone into bankruptcy. What remained may have been a more lean, efficient mode of production.

You do realize that over half of the Federal budget is spent on only three line items... Social Security, Medicare and Medicare.

That does not include what the Feds spend on education, food stamps and other social programs.

People bitch about military spending which is a shit load but it is still less than a quarter of the budget.

So let me ask you. Since the Federal government already spends trillions on "social issues", how much more should spend?

The federal government already consumers close to 25% of GNP. Add to that State and local spending and government consumes over half of GDP. How much is enough.

I was for the bail out. You expected Obama just to let one of the biggest industries fall and several thousands of people lose their jobs on a economy that was serious falling apart.

If the bail out didn't happened of such industries banks would have start to falter as well and more jobs gone, people wouldn't be able to get credit to buy cars or houses etc.

anyways, there is no direct link between the governement restricting bodily autonomy and building a coherent social system that supports the poor and underpriviledged. one does not exclude the other. in fact both of these things enable people to live a more fulfilling life and enjoy way more liberties. such as: not dying from diabetes. or not suffering from childhood poverty.
it's also really striking how you failed to adress the actual child in this scenario. you seem to not care about the innocent kid being born into a poor family at all, only about punishing the mother that was too poor to raise it in your eyes.

Let's discuss the role of government in a person's life from birth to death. That would include food, housing, education and health care.

i think abortions should be prevented not forbidden, but ironically anti-abortionists prefer to either ignore or work against solutions that are proven to help, such as comprehensive sex-ed, a wider distribution and easier access to birth control and condoms and preventative health care. All of those things would have to be subsidized by the governement. Especially for people with lower income & education who are more likely to have to get an abortion.

but you just want people not to have sex. which is not only absolutely unrealistic but also infringing on their freedom and liberty.

13 year olds with abstinence-only sex-ed often don't know how different contraceptives work or they are told that contraceptives don't work at all. Teen pregnancy is higher in regions with abstinence only sexed compared to those with a more comprehensive sexual education.

I would also like to see the connection you made between me advocating for a persons right to terminate a pregnancy and abortions as a way to regulate population statistics. i am not advocating for people to get them, i want there to be the possibility for them to get one if they so choose.

There are 8 requirements for life that would all apply to a fetus. They apply to every other cell in the human body as well though & therefore the biological definition of life alone is not enough for a conversation about abortion. What's way more important is conscience. i do not care about a clump of cells, be it human or not. but i do care about minimizing the suffering of conscious beings. As far as i know the central nervous system is developed enough to allow for basic movements & environmental perception at about 12 weeks. that does not equate to conciousness (mollusks are capable of both of these things but it is still debated wether they are conscious) but i think it is a safe point to no longer allow abortions. The fetus is about 5cm long & weighs 16g at that developmental stage, so still incredibly far from what a baby would look or weigh.
as far as i know most abortions happen way before that & i think that is a good thing. abortion rates are sinking (at least where i live) and i also think that is a good thing. i will always prioritize the prevention of abortions but i do not think that an amalgamation of human cells, that's smaller than 5cm and hast no nervous activity overrides the bodily autonomy of any person.
