Are people stealing Catalytic converters around your area?

Apparently, people have stealing them in train stations after you parked your car and leave to work.
Some areas in quiet streets.

D) None of the above. Although catalytic converters are being stolen within my area (apparently they have platinum in them), but mine has not been stolen, and if it was, I certainly wouldn’t but a new Jeep, I’d simply get a new catalytic converter.

I am not sure if it’s worth it to get it fixed. The car is 2009 and last yr. dealing would trade in for $1k.
We are still debating what to do. We are out of the country till mid Aug.

I’m really sorry this has happened to you. Sadly there is not much you can do in that case, especially if your insurance won’t cover it. I have heard of people measuring the inside diameter and the outside diameter of the exhaust pipe where the thieves cut it out, and they go to an auto parts store, buy the fight sized “flex pipe” and two exhaust clamps, then just go without a catalytic converter… but that is illegal under federal law! (Of course so is STEALING a catalytic converter, but that doesn’t stop them!) So obviously I would never recommend you do that! 😉.

Yeah they stole mine last month. Getting it fixed.

Inside there is platinum screens in most. That's why they steal them. Worth a lot of money in scrap.

No but then the scrap dealers round here aren't buying them

The documents they need to sell anything (licence plate number, address, drivers licence and paid to a name matching back account) make crime a low odds excluding dodgy dealers

Yes, they use battery powered tools to cut them off. I keep my vehicles locked in my garage at night.

Caught someone trying to steal mine. I politely yet firmly advised him that if he continued, I'd come after him, his family, and his friends. I held him at gun point until the police arrived.

@exitseven car companies switched from Platinum to Palladium , that is why Palladium exploded and Platinum tanked. They could go back to Platinum and Platinum will explode.
