What is the role of politicians in society?

In theory politicians have a double role: represent the people they govern and to make decisions for the future of the country. Obviously the representative role depends on the government system, since in a representative democracy (with a parliament elected via national elections) is like that, but in absolute monarchies or dictatorships politicians are only the expression of the established power and have only the second role.
The role of making decisions, in democracies, is due to the delegation people do to politicians, since the power theoretically is owned by people but how can a baker or a house maker or a teacher decide for the future of the country? So here’s the delegation people do in favour of politicians, we renounce to our decisional power in order to entrust decisions to “experts” whose work is to make decisions and to deal with all factors influencing these decisions.
My discourse is mainly theoretical since there are more and less serious politicians, there’s people that do really their work and others who don’t and are elected only for favour or because they’ve important friends… but it is another question.
To write, sponsor, challenge and pass laws based on the values of their constituents, essentially. As well as to represent our interests as a nation in dealing with foreign entities, more or less. I think very few, if any, are really working up to the minimum expectations.

The role of government and politics is to create order. By order I mean the opposite of chaos. Imagine living in a world where there are no rules. It would be a disaster. So politicians are supposed to come up and enact laws to make a society function properly. Since each person thinks differently, we have elections to pick who the people agree with most. Unfortunately politics are so polarized these days it doesn't seem like politicians are working for the benefit of society.
They don't. They only work for the benefit of their secret societies.
Yes, they exist.

External anarchy would work as long as we have internal monarchy. But nowadays it's the other way around, people have no internal control, and that's why they need to be controlled by others.
Our only rule could be morality, then we won't need a government. And there are universal immutable laws such as karma. Which is the knowledge of how reality works, the secret societies occulted, because knowledge is power and they don't want the masses to have power. They see us as hackable animals.

to pretend they care about the people in society... while funneling power and privilege to those in power that got them their seats as politicians
nowadays they don't even care to pretend that much
''Wrong question'', I'd say.
The present situation (all over the planet, and since a couple of decades) is about
''what role does society play in politics''.
My interpretation: get rid of them.
All they do is make it as difficult as possible to lead a successful life, especially democrats. Conservative beliefs make everything better but Republicans in congress aren't conservative, they're RINO's
To represent their constituents and pass laws or to enforce those laws.
However most politicians are corrupt.
Officially, represent people and organize society for the benefits of the people.
Realistically, they're just here to take money and leave when their pockets are full.
To lie, cheat, steal and get filthy rich doing nothing!!
Like the old record says:
"My grandfather was a politician, my father was a politician, I'm a politician, and my kid ain't gonna work, either!!"
To keep the masses pacified. To give the illusion of prosperity so as to keep production moving to benefit the ruling class.
That is how it has ALWAYS been in one form or another.
Steal from the masses because they’re too stupid to know any better.
Supposedly to make laws and provide for the general welfare. In reality, it is much different.
They are just there so you see something when you look up.
Politicians are in it for themselves. They're not into it for the people.
Good question.
