I'd say confidence plays a big role.

and some would say knowledge but i wouldn't agree with that 100%.
cause a good leader will know how to lead. l leader doesn't necessarily have to know everything about every single field his teammates or colleagues excel in, but he or she would know how to guide them down what they have to do and keep them motivated to do so.

keep in mind that, what i said doesn't exactly mean he should be clueless about what they exaclty do, im just saying that he should understand what it does, and what can be achieved through applying it.

another thing i would say is, a leader is an out of the box thinker. he or she wouldn't be afraid to present their ideas, even if it seemed wrong at first.

a leader knows what's its like to be lead. what i mean by this is, he isn't self centered or egoistic. he doesn't think "this project was done because of me" instead he would think, "where would i be without a team like this". also, he or she isn't afraid to accept any of their teammates ideas as well.

a leader should be charismatic too though. it plays a huge role in actually becoming a leader. it earns respect and comfortability.

this, again doesn't mean he has to be loud and outgoing (although this is very much preffered). a quiet person who knows what he or she is doing and how to lead, and leads by example, sets a mental image in their teams minds.

The best sign in my opinion is by example. Like a general that asks certain death of his men needs to risk what he's asking. Does this person serve themselves or the greater good? That's what I'd be asking myself when judging the worthiness of a leader.

Not delegating too much of their own responsibilities on their underlings. Respecting their underlings' opinions and advice. Admitting if they made a mistake and making corrections. Earning respect instead of demanding respect. Following through on disciplinary action if needed. A word of encouragement if a job is well done.

Does the leader give motivation, purpose, and direction? If not, then it's an automatic no.

Decisiveness. I’d bet even choosing the wrong decision would have less backlash than no decison.
