Since crime rates are so high, if you are a victim and end up in the hospital, should you have to pay your hospital bill?

A 31 year old white man was jogging and was inside the crosswalk when he was mowed down by a vehicle with three non-white guys. Then they got out of the car and robbed him. They left him for dead. He is now in critical condition in the hospital.

The local and state democrat party and public employee unions should have to pay their victims' bills, as well as compensate them for their injuries. They're both the enablers of all that rampant violence and the people who claim to think people shouldn't be responsible for their own bills.

Yes. The government should pay for things like that. But that's usually paid for by insurance companies. The problem is that we don't have universal healthcare.

If you think about it, why is that any different than someone having a heart attack out of nowhere, or breaking a bone? None of those things should put people in debt either. People shouldn't have to go through life trying to weigh whether or not their health is worth the cost it would take them to go to the doctor.

I have insurance now, but I didn't have it as a teenager, and I didn't have it in college. It's miserable. I remember I twisted my ankle really badly in college. But I couldn't go to the doctor, because I didn't have health insurance. I couldn't put any weight on my foot for over a month, so I basically just hopped to class every day. Everyone kept telling me to see a doctor, and I didn't want them to know I didn't have insurance, so I played it off as me just being a "walk it off" kind of person, who refuses to believe that the injury is bad. But I knew it was bad. I couldn't walk right for the entirety of the semester.

Existing law already has penalties for hit-and-run. I’m assuming they’ve already been identified and picked up pending prosecution? If so there will be a civil suit after the criminal prosecution. Our tax money already provides so much free healthcare, even to people who have never paid taxes in the US. It’s maddening how much free healthcare the US provides as a whole. Take it from a former hospital employee who couldn’t get a health insurance plan as good as the one people robbing us blind but not paying any kind of tax get without having an employer.
